No I’m saying I’m going to do both. Isolate the motor off trans and also pull the pan. Truly hoping it is possibly just the clutches. I appreciate all the help gentleman. Hoping I can get this figured out soon and hit the first honey hole.

Taking the clutches off means removing the whole rear of the engine, then I don't believe the engine would start due to transmissiom oil pressure issue possibly.

Just realized something. Isn’t there supposed to be a guide between the chain tensioner and timing belt? I’m not really seeing the chain get any tension from the tensioner at all.

Just realized something. Isn’t there supposed to be a guide between the chain tensioner and timing belt? I’m not really seeing the chain get any tension from the tensioner at all.

Yes, there should be a "guide" on both sides of the timing chain. One is usually a yellowish plastic and the other has rubber edges molded to a metal center.

I think you found your noise.

I would definitely replace the chain and tensioner foot for sure.

Not sure if you're following what @Hello_Darkness is saying, there is no "removing the transmission".....it's inside the engine. The subtrans is just a transfer case, nothing is spinning if the buggy is stationary.

Question is "where did it go?". Better pull the oil pan also and clean out the debris

maybe it shredded into pieces? Kind of weird honestly things don’t just disappear
maybe it’s just the pic but boy that looks new or at least shinier that the rest of engineer

Which takes me to my next question now.. seems like these tensioners actually do go bad often. Should I keep it as a spare or return it. The one I took off seemed perfectly fine.
