Can you identify this ancient artifact?
I think I now know what it is, but I could not figure it out for sure. The first correct answer gets a free beer, next time you are passing through Oklahoma on old Route 66.
I was doing some trail trimming on our heavily wooded country property, and came upon a rotten tree that had fallen, blocking the narrow trail that is barely wide enough for the P5. I spent about half and hour with the chain saw getting it out of the way and noticed something odd sticking out of the ground about 10 feet off the trail where I was dragging the sawed up tree.
Some rusted metal sticking out of the ground. I had to get a shovel to dig it out. At first I thought it was an old "oil bath air cleaner", but when I got it out, the thing must have weighed 25 or 35 pounds, made out of steel and cast iron. I put it in the P5 and took it back to the clearing where we keep our ATVS and P5. I tried to take it apart, but the screws on the lid were rusted tight. I showed it to a neighbor who lives nearby and farms most of the land surrounding mine, and he told me what he thought it was.
