I’m with you, I wouldn’t use a 1/2 truck from any manufacturer to tow anything that weighs near the max tow numbers!Begin rant:
Nothing more than paper numbers.
I’ve seen so many 1/2 tons trade lanes in windy western SD with a a 8000 lb camper in tow and a whole bunch of other trailer driving tow vehicle escapades. Rolled vehicles towing trailers in western SD during high winds is common. Wouldn’t even dream of towing 13k on a F150 (ecoturd or not)...not even once...ever.
Imo the last good F150 was in 2010 (minus cam phasers). I really liked my 2010 F150 FX4 5.4L with the six speed transmission. Routinely got 20 mpg empty. Towing milage sucked. Traded it on F250 diesel before it cam phasers were really known to be a problem on those motors.
The only F150s towing enclosed trailers or campers getting 15mpg are those going downhill with a 25 mph tail wind....and that may not even be enough.
My 2016 F350 with a 6.7l psd towing my EMPTY all aluminum 7x14 enclosed trailer at about 3500 lbs can’t even pull that off at 65mph. Maybe at 55 mph but doubt it. If I drive reasonable my 2016 F350 will be 18 to 19 empty (3.55 gears) my 2012 F250 PSD with 3.13 rear couldn’t muster 15 pulling an enclosed trailer either and it would get 21 to 22 empty.
Can’t stand ANY Ford anymore and I’m a dyed in the wool Ford guy. Same thing for the new Superduties. I’m not going to plunk down 80k on something that looks like it came out of the south end of a north bound horse, is incredibly uncomfortable, feels like the steering column is at my ankles, and worse yet looks like a Nintendo designed F150. I mean who the F designs your flagship towing truck with higher bed rails so that it makes it next to impossible to tow a 5th wheel or gooseneck and not crunch your box on slight off angle road transitions!!!
Won’t even consider one any more. Gonna stick with my 16 F350.. till Ford removes its head from rear which I doubt will happen soon.
I’m so done with Ford that there is a nice Mopar (2018 Durango awd blue jeans blue) in my wife’s parking spot. Comparable Ford Exploder was test driven and immediately removed from the running. The fit and finish of the Durango, ride quality, comfort and the haul tail ability wasn’t even close. Plus she doesn’t look like she’s driving a granny mobile.
Fords in trouble and it’s because guys like me have stopped drinking the koolaid.
End of rant.... phew.
Need some Tylenol now.
