Any ideas for installing a drain. Something sealed that could be unscrewed or un-clipped to allow easy draining.

A valve stem with (or without) the core removed, and then capped. You would really need access from inside the pipe so that might be difficult? Only reason to keep the core in is just in case the cap came loose somehow.

Well.... That might just work great. There is a tool to install from the outside. We discussed it on some threads... Somewhere.

I like your valve stem idea! I will try to come up with something. I had a customer with some equipment go down so it will be a little while until I get a chance to check it. Hopefully in several hours.

What about a radiator pep cock? Just saying.

Remember that this will be under the vehicle and susceptible to being knocked off or knocked open. That will also be a problem using the valve stem.

We first need to find out if water inside the tube is a common problem.

I am now looking into a weighted tube that can be fed down into the intake track. In the rare event that we needed to remove water from the intake tube, you could siphon it out. This could be done without crawling under the vehicle or removing skid plate. This would probably be the safest way versus putting a hole in the intake track.

Another thought I had, would be fixing a nipple on the bottom of the intake tube that we could attach a hose to permanently. Then you could siphon it at any time without having to run a tube down the intake track. But this goes back to putting a hole in it and risking the nipple falling off or being knocked off which would result in the open hole

I'll be home in a few hours and start working on something. Right now I like the idea of carrying a small tube with a weight on the end that could be rolled up and kept inside the glove box. Again this is only necessary if we find out if there is a water problem

For the hard core water fellas, even windshield washer pump could be attached to the tube ran down to the bottom of the intake tube. It could then be switched on and off with a momentary switch to see if water is accumulating in there. If so can easily expel it once set up and not ruin the integrity of the intake tube .

The solution in my mind isn't adding a drain, it's preventing water from ever getting in the intake. Whether that means not hitting water fast, or snorkeling of some sort. I have a hard time believing 2 or 2.5 quarts sloshed around in there for any amount of time. Hope this gets covered for you! Sorry for the misfortune!

Waylan
Snorkel is on the way!:)

I remember this too but can't locate it. Anyone else remember this?
Something like he was creek riding fairly fast, been driving in it most of the day and then all of a sudden his rig shut down. Come to find out it was full of water yet he was never really in that deep water, he was only going fast.

Hypothetically, if the pipe was to take on water it would be fairly large tasks to drain on the trail.
Yes that's the guy. It was a very shallow rocky creek. I looked and it's since disappeared. I'd really like to get his story first hand and see if Honda covered that one too.

Yes the crankcase vent goes into the air box as well. I haven't spent much time looking into that and it's a possibility however usually it's kind of low pressure either way and such a small line that no way all of that went through but I'm not sure what happens here when there's a problem with the motor. I wish I had my pioneer so I could test some of these things and look and tear apart the system. A wet paper filter will allow dirt through no problem though especially under force

I did the same thing with my rigid camera, 270 miles last weekend in rain and mud and puddles, perfectly clean.

Get this! To remove the lower piece, you must remove one hose clamp near the bottom. I felt down there with several socket sizes to get the right one and the clamp was so loose that I unscrewed it by hand!

I'm so glad I did this inspection.

I went ahead and checked all clamps from the hood to the throttle bodies and gave them all a 1/2 round or more to make sure they're right.

Stupid question but could the dip stick of fell out or was loose? Sometimes the easiest thing can be overlooked and get you. Or if it broke or fell out warranty or insurance would cover it.

No it was in. That wouldn't allow that much water that quickly
