P1000 Trailer help

I need to get a trailer for my P1k5. I own a 5x8 trailer and its super handy. I'm debating between keeping this and getting a 6x10 or 12 low side single axle (cheapest), sell the 5x8 and buy a single axle 6x12 higher side or possibly a tandem axle 6x12 or maybe 14. I know the tandem will tow nicer, but it also is more difficult to maneuver by hand. Feedback on trailer experience and more importantly regrets is what I'd like to hear. I have concerns about getting in and out of the Pioneer in a highsided trailer vs a flatbed type design, but like the higher sides for dump runs and bringing extra gear when I take the Pioneer. I will be towing with a F350 diesel, so brakes etc are a non-issue.

I would recommend the tandem 14ft. With sides, for me it's the perfect size for most of anything you want to do. I usually let the tailgate down and walk up to the pioneer instead of climbing over the side. As for maneuvering by hand you can't. The only thing you could do is lift it up on to the ball of the hitch but it's heavy, so I usually move it around with the pioneer. Even with the sides you can open the doors with plenty of clearance over the sides.

Do you absolutely need to maneuver it by hand? The reason I ask is because you need to keep in mind that you're hauling around a 1700lb machine, and that's without the added weight of gear, etc. The lightest trailer I've found that is single axle in the 10 to 14 foot range weighing between 840 and 960lbs has a GVWR rating of 2990lbs. That leaves you about 2000lbs for the Pioneer and anything else you want to put on the trailer. Not a lot of wiggle room there.

i haul my 700 around on a 6.5'x 12 single axle with sides that are around 1' tall. I wanted the ability to haul the pioneer with the 6' plow on and still able to move it around by hand. I have stock tires and suspension and I can still open the doors over the sides to get out.

I've got a 16' car hauler, no sides. I can haul my 700 and zero turn mower on it together and don't have any extra room at the back. 2 SXSs will not fit length ways.
I haven't priced trailers for quite a while but I think you'll find a 14' tandem will be really close to a 16' in price. Just something to consider if you lean toward the 14'.

I've got a single axle 77"x 12' and love it. Tandems are nice but also more money. Love how the 12'er handles and goes on the interstate smooth as silk. I kept my 5x8 to use with the foreman.

Lot's of solid advice already. I have a 4x8 single-axle that I use for light work and a 6x14 tandem that I use to haul heavier items, including the P1K.

If I were to buy over again, I'd still buy the little 4x8 because it's so useful and easy to move around. I'd spring for the extra two feet on the tandem though. It wasn't much more money and there have been quite a few times that those extra couple of feet would've been useful.

Another thing to think about if your considering between a 14 and 16, is that a 16 won't fit in two parking spaces( if you pull through to park) it's too long with it and your f350 together. A 14ft will fit perfect with the f350 and trailer.

I left out that I also have unlimited access to a 8x24 enclosed car hauler, which I use for hunting trips mostly. I disagree about the never too big comment, the 8x24 is much too big for my purposes, even when hauling a jeep, atvs and 4 guys hunting gear.
I understand the limits of load capacity of a single axle, but I also don't follow those ratings as limits for my use, just a guideline. I understand the legal argument, but know lots of PD and it is rarely even looked at unless it is a blatant overload.
I am hoping to use the pioneer trailer for the same purposes as my small 5x8. Storage is a bit of an issue.

I've got a 7x10 aluminum. It's super handy for a trailer. Easily push it by hand anywhere I want. It's a snug fit. If I did it over I would of went with a 6x12.

What I did, I had a 6 x 8 atv trailer, was to small. I bought a used double jet ski trailer with a 2200lb axel, cut the bunks off and built a 6.5 x 10 bed with a folding tail gate/ramp. About $800. Invested. I was limited for storage space, so I made it as small as possible. Bottom line with pioneer on it, weighs about 1900lb on the axel, 450 lb on the tongue. It does what it i need it to do. Trails nice, with enough tongue weight to ride nice. So that would be minimum size. You can buy simular size for $1400-1500. jhmo

I have a nice 6'x10' tilt that I haul my p1k on, it fits nice. The problems are that I have to back it on to get the trailer to tilt down and latch. Also, it puts hardly any weight on the tongue and the trailer wants to move around some at speed when I hit a bump. If this was a fixed bed and the axle was properly located it would perfect for one p1k.

I agree they can be too big. I have an 18' steel deck goose neck that I haul my hot rod and tractor on. No way would I want to fool with that for my Pioneer.

I have a 16 ft double axle car hauler / flat deck. It has 20" removable sides which are handy. I've transported everything on that trailer. The side by side and an atv can squeeze on with lots of additional deck space for loose gear.

There is no way you can move it by hand though; it's just too heavy. I put a front receiver on the truck and hook the trailer up there for tight maneuvering. It's almost miraculous how easy the trailer is to guide around when using the front receiver.

I like my 8 X 18, I can hook up my log splitter/dirt bike to my PK1 and take it where ever
