P1000 Sub-trans Oil ?

From what I was told same oil just seperate filters. But I don't own one .

The sub transmission is separate from the main motor or DCT. The sub transmission controls H, L, and R. It houses its own oil and does not have a filter. It uses the same type as the motor and holds 1.27 US qt. Page 149 in your manual.
You can view the sub trans under the seat on the passenger side. There is a black dip stick to check it.
The Sub Trans oil is only recommended by Honda to check at the initial service and every 600 miles after. It is recommended to change it every 2 years!

@Plumber32 You are thinking about the engine and the DCT.
The engine and the DCT share the same oil. However each side has its own filter.

How many drain bolts are there ? I would figure 1 for the sub trans and 1 for the motor, but It looks like theres 3 in the manual ?

i did my first oil change saturday and yes there are 3 drain plugs. two in the back both 12mm socket and 1 front 17mm socket. postion the pan properly or you will get wet. i found out the slippery way. 6.1 quarts engine and 1.27 qts subtrans. also changed oil filters total 75.00 oil change. oil was very clean and had zero metal flakes that i could tell . i feel confident about a longer interval on oil changes within reason.

@DTAGG, cut the filter open and look from the inside. Interested in shavings since u said the oil was so clean.

I cut my filter open just a few minutes ago and very very few shavings at all. Unlike the 700 first change which had quite a few in them

honda gn4 10-30w. and factory filters. i had 120 miles on my unit about 8 hrs maybe 9 hrs unsure but close

im not Shure if im going to run rottella yet or run the Honda oil yet. I have always ran rottella but I have never had a machine with a warranty either until now.

i have always been told honda developes the engines to run the same oil and to exact specs for longevity. it may be a selling point to talk up honda oil but i am a believer in using factory brand oils. never had an issue yet been riding for 30 years and have had 6 hondas over the years. may i make a note that i ride alot harder off road than onroad so i make sure i use an oil that is designed for a motorcycle. just some of my thots

ok I could not find the 3rd drain plug I found the one with the 17mm and one other with the 12mm does any one have any pics ?

I changed all my fluids at 120 miles . even though the fluid was spotless and found no sign of metal i know by doing the service i can safely run it until next service. i may even go longer intervals depending on my riding conditions. it cost 80.00 to do a full oil and dct change with filters t g i is not synthetic oil.
