Your way past to getting that bolt out.Move your new bolt to a different location slighty.Use a rivnut into frame somewhere just recess the skid plate some.No one will know but you and me I WILL NOT TELL.

That occurred to me as well.

Boogered threaded mount. Don't know if there's enough to re-thread for larger bolt?

For the forward location (the sheared bolt spot) I should be able to install a +nut or two instead.

For the rear location (boogered threads), that's at a spot where two pieces of the skid come together so I need something there.
Can I rethread that spot? With what, a tap? One that goes into a drill, or one with a T-handle thingy?
Can it be drilled out hollow to accept a +nut?
Other thoughts?

TIA!

If you can't drill out the old one, maybe you can use a spot weld drill bit. It's basically a mini hole saw but.......might work 🤷‍♂️. If not and it were me, I'd run a self tappers right beside the broken bolt.

A nearby substitute anchor is indeed the plan for that spot. but with a +nut or two.

I just need a plan for the spot with bad threads. I need to use that spot. I don't know if I can re-thread it or not.
Do I have to go bigger; from M6 to M8? Or should I try to rethread with M6? Or try to ream it out with 3/8"?

Are the threads just in the metal of the framing material, or is there an insert of some kind?

You'll probably need to go up in size.

Update: I got the sheared bolt spot drilled out, ready for a +nut. Slightly off center; the pilot bits wandered away from the fused mess but it should work.

I'll try an M8 tap in the other spot.

Thanks!

( . . . worst thread ever . . . )

No metric taps at the local Homey Despot. So I drilled it out to 3/8". Plus nuts now in both locations.

Much ado about very little, I know.

No more Critter work until Monday. Hopefully get the skid pieces back on then.

Certainly appreciate the help!!

Skids reattached, all good.

What a boring thread.

Thanx

Seriously, a big 'thank you' to @lee for the plus nut / x nut idea. Seems more secure than the rivnuts. I only heard one of them snap from overtightening.
