I was going to start putting in rivnuts, but it looks like that's not recommended?

Which have you done? Regrets?

I've done self-tapping into the tube frame, a few of which keep pulling out. Then again, I hear the rivnuts can spin, bolts break as well.
I installed the skids on my Pioneer and Talon using rivnuts. No complaints. Work great/easy to install. Had a few rivnuts loosen up, but easy to replace too.

On my Pioneer, I had several of the skid bolts seize up in the rivnut. I put antiseize on the skid bolts of my talon, and have not run into any more problems with rivnuts seizing, i have found a missing skid bolt/washer that vibrated loose, but only a couple of times. . I check them everytime I do an oil/filter change.

I like the plus nut idea, but trying to use a setting tool up under there . . . ? . . . tight quarters

1/4-20 size ok? zinc ok? what size hole to set them?

You can get the riv-uts/+ nuts in metric sizes, the skid plate bolts on the stock p520 are M6.
Or you can use 1/4-20.
My only recommendation is don't mix them.
Nothing more fun than laying in the mud trying to put it all back together and the last 1/4-20 bolt is not wanting to start in the last remaining M6 hole.

I don't suppose a plus nut setter is a tool that one can rent? 🤔
Looks like 85 -90 to buy one . . . a riv nut tool is much cheaper.

I've done self tapping and after a dozen rip out of 40ish bolts time to do it right.

Ditto I went with these from Amazon 4 years ago, still have plenty to do my new P1K5D next week.

Currently leaning towards rivnuts. I'm don't seem willing to buy the plus nut tool. :rolleyes:

I'm away from the buggy so I'm trying to think ahead for what I'm gonna need once I get back into it.

ordered plus nuts, setting tool, bolts, drill bits . . . Critter's skids need upgrading too, and the 520 is just a matter of time

Working on Critter's skid plate. Several self tappers had come out.

The plus nut setter seems to work just fine. The online info said a 9mm hole for them, but it's too small. Using 3/8.

The problem: in removing the two main center pieces of the SSS skid, two of the factory mount bolts snapped.
I drilled one of them out, but now can't get a bolt to thread. Self tapper here? Try to drill it out for a plus nut?
The other is worse. Tried to get it out with extractors; the bit snapped off in the hole and has fused/galled. Can't get a drill bit to bite to drill out.

Suggestions?
