I went out yesterday.

Apparently, abandoned dozer videos are popular, so I knew of 1 more, and a couple of places I also wanted to make short videos about. In that haste, I neglected to take many pics. And that's the place where I DON'T want to be...where the ride suffers from to much of an agenda.

Still...it was an enjoyable ride of nearly 90 miles. Got back well after dark, and while climbing out of the wash that leads down to Hackberry mine, I saw some flashing lights. My first thought was someone stopped in the darkness with whips, but as I got closer, I realized it was just solar charged Christmas lights.

This is the site of a memorial plaque I took pics of a few years ago. Someone had decorated the tree with them, and they are just out there, flashing away in the desert where few will see them.

I told the wife that if I go before her, I want her to have someone do that for me.

That's my biggest problem, I'm not a morning person and it's usually cold in the mornings when I'm there, so I tend to leave late. That keeps me chasing the sunset all day ... it sucks. :(

Great idea - I discovered the desert in 1972 and have been back almost every year since. I've seen a few memorials and would like my ashes dumped over an overlook.

Those are all over down here. Box canyon Florence has a whole hill called Granny Pass that's covered in them. There are photos earlier in this thread.

I just thought the light thing was cool to come across in the dark. Just doing their thing out in BFE, not a care in the world. Kinda like me.
