Let's hear it...
Well.........there's just such a vast difference in these two machines and keeping up is out of the question impossible. If mopar is willing to allow the P5's to set the pace, that will be one thing, but his time frame for the expedition would be much longer. I've got my concerns about the P7 as well so I'm going to be getting my trailer brought in as soon as possible and doing a series of endurance test runs, and I'll be completely forthcoming with mopar as to the results so that he can make informed decisions about this. I think it would be prudent for you to do some long distance test runs with prolonged periods at a sustained speed of 35 mph loaded with the same weight you'll be carrying on the expedition and posting your results.

By the time this ride gets here I am going to need tires replaced,I am looking at General Grabber AT2,,,27/8.5/14 ,any input on these tires would be appreciated, areView attachment 28277 they legal run in the states we will be going thru ? I had heard street tires aren't allowed in Wis.
Yeah, mopar told me that we have to have DOT approved tires. Hopefully he or someone else will know what's accepted.

So are you considering a 1000 ? I know it will be a lot to expect out of the 700 and the 500 ,the power to weight of the 2 are about the same.Thats why I am not even considering a trailer, and plan to keep total weight of me and cargo to less than 400 #

And that may make the difference with yours. Don't tell mopar, but yes I'm considering that, but that depends on a few things, not the least of which is the results of my test. I will need to be able to sustain 40 mph on hard top surfaces with no troubles to be comfortable with taking the P7.

Those are the tires I plan on running. I've heard nothing regarding street tires being illegal in Wisconsin.

Ok... I'm going to give my truthful opinion on this. I've driven all 3 at one point so I feel comfortable passing judgement, I think the 700 and 500 are awesome machines i really do. Just speaking for purposes of this ride alone, and not all the other million reasons I like the 1k, I think you will honestly be money and frustration ahead. Only reason I'm inserting my .02 in here is because I get a feeling like 2 of you at least have been having some internal conflict about upgrading anyway. Obviously for our plans it's hands down a more capable machine. Now everyone is freaking out over the price tag with he 17 models price release. If say you have a paid off 500, in good shape it's worth what, 6k? A nearly new 700, maybe 8-10k? 16:model 3 seater is what 12k? 14 for a 5 seater. So we are talking 2-6 grand in difference in cash. 3 years at 100 - 150 bucks a month if you were to finance. To me it's worth it IF you were already considering a trade up. If not, then skip this post. My statement stands. I welcomed 500-700 along and I keep my word. Again, just my worthless opinion here but there it is

Btw, the 500 has a curb weight of 1010 and the 700 1268. The 500 has a 475 cc engine and the 700 a 675 cc engine. So the 700 is 26% heavier but has a 43% larger engine so I'm confused how the power to weight is the same. What do I have wrong here lol.

But on my way out the door to dinner I'll just leave you all with this. I'm not going to own four sxs's, so if I buy a 1000, I'll sell my Oklahoma ranch SxS, yep the Polaris Ranger and get a 1000-3. That would kill three birds with one stone. For one I'd be set for the ROTC and any subsequent long distance rides, I'd have a new ranch vehicle for many years to come (the PoPo is eight years old) and CP and I could become BFF's because I wouldn't ever have to mention how great my PoPo is again, lol. :D:D

He was talking about "power" to weight ratio. Not engine size to weight ratio. Time for some calculations.....

The p500 is .028 HP per pound

The p700 is .028/.0255 HP per pound

P500 is 28.7 HP
P700 is 36.4 HP

Weight:
P500 is 1025 lbs
P700 is 1268/1411 lbs

Hi I hope your endurance test go's well and u are ableto go with the P7.as for me I am continuing to add expedition up grades to my P500, today I installed my side scid plates and got the front fender flears installed and I'll do the rear fenders tomarow, my 12" light bar came in and I need to install that. I'm in the process of getting a cargo rack built for my ride and strong made makes a front rack for the P500 that I will also be adding as well. I will be posting pics as I go. The Avenger will be a full blown expedition machine.;)

I'd suggest that anyone traveling on this with 500 or 700 invest in replacing factory headlights with hids so on pavement you can legally see good
