My dog had diarrhea this morning so I decided to run to Silverton where I thought there was a veterinary clinic. But when I had done the research through Google I typed in Silverton veterinary clinic and they gave me two numbers of which I called not paying attention to the numbers and that they happen to have been in Oregon. Nonetheless I drove all the way to Silverton In the hopes of getting there before the clinic closed. So I got some human anti-diarrheal medicine for her and decided I was going to go ahead and get us some of this day and do some traveling I went to the top of Mayflower mine up 21 & 22about 2 miles out of Silverton.The old mine which was about 11,000 feet and quite amazing and so much so that I’m not getting the Pucker affect and decided not to push it any further and turned around came back. All throughout that little valley was a whole bunch of old for lack of better term case mates that I’m guessing they used to put up towers in order to run cables and buckets of or down the mountain to the mail. A lot of the evidence still exists like it was abandoned only years ago.
The trail towards the top was very steep, narrow and rocky.

Beat am I. 7.5 hrs solid riding...like on stones man...Yup, ye guessed it. Me had to go check out Stony Pass. Boy was it stony! Great ride with spectacular scenery the whole way up. I reached 12,605’ up thar. I wanted to ride back along the Continental divide, but alas it is only a hiking path at that point. I also considered dropping down to trail eight which is rated as difficult and not recommended for 60 inch wide machines where I would’ve picked up I think it’s 27 to Wagee Gulch and back to Lake City but being alone I didn’t want to push the machine in any serious conditions. So I basically just came back down the way I went up and back over to the Alpine Loop. It was a beautiful ride and I am glad that at least these two rides that I did today on this two separate trails outside of Silverton Colorado were me just trying to find new places to ride and see where I could get lost. Each time I was richly rewarded with spectacular scenery and historical treasures abounding.

From today’s side trips . Looking at the map Silverton would be to the south west and Lake City to the north east. The first trail south to the left was to the mayflower mine and the other trail to the right was to Stony Pass
The horizontal line at the top of the map is part of the south arm of the Alpine Loop. The second photograph is a closer up picture of Stony Pass and the Continental divide trail in red to the right.

@SD350Jim this is the lake city thread. Everybody else, this is Jim, @Alan ’s son. I just spent the last 5 days riding with them.
