Great thread JTW.

Been doing a variety of camping for a lot of years.
This last year, I've been working to transition from camping and running the Appalachian mountains on 2 wheels to camping and working our way to into well, overlanding I guess.

We have done it a lot of ways including shipping our clothes ahead to a hotel to have a change of clothes.

Emphasis for me has been getting a Wrangler fixed up for whatever I might want to use it for but mainly a DD and emergency vehicle to get to older family members who live alone.

There is a lot of overlap with the Wranglers and the SXSs and I have been looking at what might cross over these last few months.
Both vehicles are the Mr. Potato Heads of the vehicle world. You can make them into anything you want.

I've been keeping up with a guy who develops a lot of accessories for the Wrangler. Here is a picture of some of his work.

Someone just copied the Batwing design. Not a new Concept. Just another new company. As most of you know I've been overloading quite some time. My vehicles and trailers evolved over a period of time as my needs and interests changed. Before I got into the pioneers, I dragged around my modified M416 1/4 ton military jeep trailer made by Johnson Furnace in 1967. Before I had the Four Wheel Camper Hawk, I slept under the topper in the bed of my truck and a roof top tent. There are a number of forums and websites like this one dedicated to the whole overloading genre. Check out Expedition Portal or American Adventurist or Wander the West. I am sure there are more but those were the main attractions for me in the last 10+ years of exploring. The only western state I never fully explored was Nevada. Too dang hot! What I love about the pioneers is being able to leave my truck/camper and trailer behind and use the Pioneer to explore and for that purpose alone, it is an absolute blessing!

If we are starting down this track, there are plenty of good books on the subject. One of my favorites is Who Needs a Road

Who Needs a Road?: The Story of the Longest and Last Motor Journey Around the World https://www.amazon.com/dp/0964252155/?tag=sxsweb24-20

Additionally, a trip to the Land Cruiser Heritage Museum in Salt Lake will allow one to see the rigs used by Expedition 7

Man! I like the way you think, 100Acre!

QUESTION: How do you get your Pioneer to your campsite? I'm trying to develop a light trailer concept that will allow me to, 1) take the Talon along, 2) set up camp, 3) relieve the truck for those travel duties that require road-legal transportation. I can't afford a bigger truck and trailer. That's why I'm trying to develop a solution that uses what I've got. Yes, I can just tent camp, and I've got plenty of gear for that. But, my wife is not too interested in that so I'm searching for alternatives that would present a bit more comfort for her and allow us to bring along most anything we want.

Seems to me that one of the big issues (for her) is lack of shower facilities. I know I can rig up a solar shower, but that's just not the same. Generally, I'm ok with going several days without. But, as we all know, trail riding (especially with a group) can be pretty dirty. What is your solution for showering?

an on demand hot water shower. I used a couple of different models. They run on propane. My first design I used in my trailer, I had a 26 gallon ATV sprayer taNK HOOKED UP TO MY DEEP CYCLE batteries and powered by a 100watt solar panel. I have changed this setup over time as the trailer evolved as well as shower stalls. A benefit of using a roof top tent is that you can get the under the tent Annex for showering, changing or a bucket/toilet location in privacy

It's really interesting seeing the evolution of your set up. How do you transport the Pioneer?
