So been out of the RV and HD pickup game for 4 years. From April 2010 through September 2020 I had owned (3) F450 Platinum's a 2011, 2015, & 2017 had put 780K miles on them collectively so I'm very familiar with the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, gen 6.7 powerstroke diesel powertrains. I had a 2011 & 2015 Heartland Cyclone 5th wheel Toyhaulers that I dragged around with the F450's but after moving to TN in 2016 with so many trails nearby, just didn't see the need for the camper, more so that we lived in the last one 24/7 for 8 months starting in July 2016 waiting for our house to be built, so the wife & I were all campered out by April 2017.

All that said, with those times behind us we are ready to travel some more, but not take the entire house with us when we go. I bought the Salem FSX 270RTKX at end of October hoping that it's dry weight of 6100 lbs. would be handled fine by the '21 F150 that had the 14K max tow package. On paper it should be fine, except I had all those miles in a "real HD truck" towing campers, both mine and about 300 new ones from MFG's to dealerships. So with well over 400K towing miles behind me, I probably had unreasonable expectations of the F150's 3.5L twin turbo V6 that had over the past 3 years and 50K miles served me well and towed small trailers and SXS without effort. So anyway I purchased the camper in Trenton, OH about 240 miles from the house, the F150 got 22 mpg @ 74 MPH going up empty as expected, but returning only netted 6.9 mpg @ 65 mph and even with the 36 gal tank I was hunting gas after only 200 miles, couple that and with only the mild hills of I-75 from Cincinnati, OH to TN the F150 would drop from 8th gear at 65mph 2100RPM to 5th gear 3700 RPM and hold that far longer than I liked. By the time I pulled into the driveway with the camper I had already made up my mind a more capable tow pig was in order.

Truck Market Side Story - My search began, Dealerships are LOADED with HD trucks, the largest dealership in GA, Akins Ford had 540 HD Diesel trucks on the lot, they have several that have been sitting since January 2024, I set my eyes on (7) identical F250 Tremors all were built on 3/7/24 three had sequential VIN's and all were marked down 10K (just about the A plan pricing- which is 89.6% of the window sticker price) on the dealers website, will they go lower, yes they did. I started working them and a local dealer in Knoxville TN that had 150 ford Diesel pickups on the lot, many sitting over 6 months, they too had those select units marked 10K off MSRP, they weren't TREMOR's but were Lariat Ultimate packages which had the specific hardware I was looking for with a window sticker of 88K vs. the GA, Tremors 98K. Ended up trading with Ted Russel Ford on 12/6 after much negotiating, truck was $88,470 MSRP - traded my '21 F150 with 52K mile son it, with $12K off MSRP -$76,500 and got $39,500 allowance for trade in $37K difference + TTL - $41K OTD.

So Anywhoo brought this beauty home a week ago, 2024 F250 Lariat.

Very Nice pickup, night and day different from the dually of years past. Never expected a HUD in a pickup though, took a few days to grow on me, but I like it.

However one small, but large glaring detail that nagged away at me was the ludicrously tall front air dam on this, 7.8" tall vs. the 2.5" tall air dam on the Tremor versions for improved approach angle. That Tow-Mater Appalachian front valance overbite had to go. Much better look for $200 and 30 minutes of my time.

Only remaining nag was the pickup had the carpeted mats with minimal coverage, took a chance on these TuxMats off Amazon and the pictures online didn't do them justice. VERY satisfied with the full carpeted area and door sill coverage on all 4 doors. They are TPO / rubber but have a stitched leather / carbon fiber appearance. They fit amazingly well.

Weight Distribution Hitch, - I've had a few of these from my RV delivery days as company policy on bumper pull campers. Ya feel really stupid putting one on a 3500 lbs. camper attached to an F450 dually LMAO, but rules was rules.

Had been researching what was considered the best and the Weigh Safe True Tow Heavyweight was at the top of all reviewers lists.

This thing is a hoss, the box delivered weighed 134 lbs. It uses precise measurement's from your specific set up and an app on your phone to determine the correct amount to "weight" to put on your ball. In a nutshell, the head unit pivots and you torque it down until the oil filled scale on the side matches the weight range shown on the app. I used this to pull the camper home with the F150 and was very happy with how it handled that load at highway speed with cross wind and big rig traffic going by.

I'll tell you what. I'll never buy an Anderson hitch again 2nd time i used it. They told me to pack sand since it was over a year old. I have 2 of them. Other ones been great with 30k on it.

I’ve had a weigh safe 3” aluminum hitch for years. Works great and I’ve towed some heavy crap with it.

IMO it’s a good product.
Know anyone that needs one? Still have this on the shelf, used once to Colorado and back in 2019 club ride.

F250 only has a 2.5" receiver so no use for me.

Just pulled forward in the driveway and there was a jerk like it was hard to get moving so I stopped at the gas station under the lighs and sure as shiit. Never drug it either.

Ditto, got 2 of them 2.5” for the F350 and 3” for the F450. Soon buy another one for the HDT hauler conversion we are having built, 2022 Volvo VNL 860.

Couch's RV Nation is like 30 min from me in Trenton/Hamilton, Ohio.....I've always heard they are the place to go for an RV
Crouches was 8-9k less on my camper than any of the big dealers in Knoxville TN (Lazy Dayz @ Camping World). Which I would NEVER recommend buying any unit from CW anywhere.

I really like the floor mats, yes they can be cleaned in any manner, they are a TPO rubber, just appear to be made out of something else.

I've only had to use a microfiber cloth and window cleaner and they wiped perfectly clean from typical wet gravel road debris.

As with all FORD products there is a handy program made by a Ruskie called FORScan that lets a person with the correct cable make all kinds of changes to their vehicle by turning on features or off in some cases a person may want.

One of the most annoying things is the Honk when you walk away with key in or running, then the seat belt minders, followed by the triple ding tone on every startup. Easily nixed those minor annoyances them got into some cool stuff, like turn on
"Bambi Mode" which allows the fog lights to stay on even with Hi Beams, The diffused C clamp running lights only run 30% power, turned them up to 100%, and keep DRL on even with Low / Hi Beams. These made a huge difference in night driving, especially on road shoulder illumination.

My next little project is to re-use a 12K winch I had on my 2017 F450 - a SmittyBilt X20 COMP this bugger sat in my Road Armor Bumper for 350K miles and thankfully never used it OTR to save my bacon, but since taking it off the truck when I sold it has been very handy getting my tractor un-stuck a few times thanks to a2" receiver hitch mount for it.

Kinda miss my Road Warrior setup - did great for 374K miles:

Anyway was able to confirm the Hidden Winch Mounts for the 2020-2022 Ford SD work on the 23-25 models with trimming 2" off the backside plastic tab and doesn't interfere with Adaptive Cruise Control.

FORD want's a ridiculous $3855 for their 12K Warn Winch / mount kit, it is a bit more robust and involved to install, but the mount I bought installs in all the same 10 OEM frame holes as Ford's option. So have had the winch for 7+ years, it's in great shape, so for another $145 for the hidden mount kit, it is a no brainer.

Been using FORScan with all my Ford and Lincoln products for ~10 years now. My OBDLink MX wireless BT dongle works great for programming as well as monitoring with FORScan Lite on a tablet. Ran it all the time with my '17 F350 SuperCrew Powerstroke.

I also picked up a Mongoose Plus J2534 VIC so I can update the firmware in all the modules in the vehicles using FDRS (same software the dealership techs use). I recently used this (and FORScan) to update my '21 F150 to BlueCruise 1.4 and enable a few new features on the '24 Dark Horse.

Two great tools to personalize your truck or car.

Watching a video last night of a hotshot trucker explaining clearance lights. By law apparently if your 8' wide with your trailer or maybe over 8' by law you need clearance lights. Doesn't sound like it's enforced, but both the ram Trx, and the raptor has them built into the hood, where a lot of dually's have them on roof, fender, and some across the tailgate. With it technically being a law why wouldn't every 2500 and 3500 come with them automatically? Seems most travel trailers would meet this criteria. Maybe the lights on the mirrors cover that?

Does that ford have an automatic shut off system to keep you from letting it idle?
Only for a 30 minute limit, which you can over ride on screen in Sync 4 by just tapping it, then it will run until it's out of fuel.

I can completely eliminate it in FORScan if I want to.
