Outer layers to block the weather with layers underneath. Merino wool and fleece are my choices. Check out Minus 33 clothing for base/mid layers.

I like silk long handles for the first layer if your going to do mutable layers, you won't bound up as much and they're warm and thin.

When it's 18* - 20* below, all I need is my flannel jammies cause I shur as sh!t ain't goin' outside.
