West of Salt Lake City, Utah. Everything to the right of the fence is open to OHV's, do whatever the F you want. But off to the left is a military area, and even if you find a way thru the fence, a Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II will make U wish you hadn't.

CID is my hero!
Just a #oleguy tryin' to set a good example. I found something I love to do and I'm doing everything I can to make it happen. Life ain't gonna come to you, you gotta chase that b!tch down and make it happen (most guys here are already doing that 👍). I'm thankful that @Hondasxs gave me a place to share my story.
CID has got it going on. I would love to venture out his way and ride with him for a week or so
Make it a year or two and we can talk.

Checked out Hot Springs ORV Park last week with @Bcavin351 . Really nice place with something for everyone. Little pricey @ $45/Day for ride pass but probably one of the most well marked trail systems I've ever been on (directional and trail difficulty).

Got stuck behind some Jeeps on the Quartz Canyon Badge of Honor trail. There were 4 Badge of Honor trails at HSORV and every one of them was surprisingly fun in the SXS. They are typically pretty simple trails with a few mud puddles and a little dust from my previous experience, but these were great

@Ragnar406 made a special guest appearance to ride with us Saturday. KRX popped a front axle on one of the 5 diamond obstacles along Rubicon Ridge, but we got it back going in no time. s***ty part was driver axle already had a torn boot but he broke the passenger 😆

Still a bit too hot in the desert (over 90*) and I have a friend from Arkansas on a fishing trip, WSW of Creede, Colorado; so I stopped to visit for a few days on my way to Utah.

While they were fishing, I headed of on the dirt road that passes Rio Grande Reservoir. I don't know how to download offline maps to GAIA, never needed them before. But here in the mountains, GAIA couldn't load mapping, so I was just putting alone like an ole woman until I saw this sign, and then it was - Hold my beer. Silverton is significant because it's a part of the Alpine Loop, which I've ridden. I love connecting trails together from different directions.

Camp is this guy - in the lower right, the Alpine Loop is that short red track in the upper left, Stony Pass is the route. Silverton is just off screen SW of the red track.

More from the Creede, Colorado area; actually right at Creede -

About 11,500 elevation, at the end of the far left purple trail (see track log below)

The Creede track log. That short purple track in the upper left was at 12,8xx elevation. The left half of the slate track was a stunning high country valley, absolutely beautiful (but on the camera, so photos later). 😍 The bright orange track in the middle right was 4.6 miles (round trip) of rocks, lotsa rocks and took an hour. All the black icons are closed for some reason or another. A number in the icon means there are more than one in that area but don't show at this zoom range.

Just got back home from a six day 887 mile overland SxS ride to Copper Harbor, Michigan. Rode with 8 other machines and 13 riders.

Started at my buddy's cabin northwest of Gordon, Wisconsin. Rode 210 miles to Winter, Wisconsin for the first night. Next day was 186 miles to Mass City, Michigan. The third day we crossed the channel bridge in Houghton, Michigan and drove up to Copper Harbor. The next three days were spent exploring some of the areas on our way back on a shorter and slightly different track. During the entire trip the group experienced only two flat tires, and one machine (Polaris) had to drop out due to an engine failure on day 5 in Iron County in Wisconsin. My Honda Talon ran flawlessly.

As the sun begins to fall behind the western clouds, Imma sitting here reveling in my choice of hobbies -
1728957893828
And for whatever side of my heritage gave me such an intense love of the desert - life is good - 😍

God, messin' with my late afternoon solar top-off - 🥲

And capitalism messin' up my mojo -

Skies are lookin' angry, winds are pickin' up - I think there's an Oldsmobile Toronado movin' in ... maybe I shouldn'ta called God out for blockin' my sunset -
1728958448255

I'll say this about the weather, it's been damn near perfect, a little warm but that would be my preference. 🥶

The thing is - it's the desert and the wind blows here - A LOT ... but it hasn't ... so far
1728958656545
... until this evening. It's started picking up. Thankfully, I wear ATGATT, even in the Talon. Once I put my helmet on, the winds could blow 100 mph (I'd rather they didn't) and I'd hardly notice, hell, I don't even have any windows.

I was here in the van with the WR250 and the wind blew for all 3 weeks that I was here. It blew so hard that I had to tie the TentCot to the van wheels to keep it from blowing away.

Tue, Wed and Thu should be perfect at upper 70's, but crap hits the fan on Fri - Sun, rain and clouds, icky, even in ATGATT. I think I 'could' have gotten 4 more days out of this area but the weather Gods might cut me short.

Crap - I relocate the solar panel after sunset so it can get its ass to work at first light. Well, it's after sunset, the wind is 'almost' howling and I just relocated the panel. The thing is ~18" x 45", flat and weights next to nothing; the perfect wind sail. It's surprising how much 'load' a brisk wind can exert on a light, flat panel; even when you know to hang on.
