RECALL - Power Steering Joint, 2017-2020 P700, 2016-2020 P1000 EPS Models Only

Talked to the service manager this week about doing it my self, he explained it is a safety recall and is different than the run of the mill recalls. He explains to me that the inspection / repair will be documented and attached the the vin#, that means if you ever trade it in you could be on the hook for inspection / repair? If the recall ever expires? It will take 10 times longer to load, trailer, unload, load and trailer than it would take me to do the inspection / repair?

i have a front shock that needs warranty, they told me about a steering check when i called they want to do all the work. im strongly against them touching my machine because i know who the service guys are. my buddy from hs is the store manager.. and i didnt buy it from them for good reason. what do you suppose if a guy was to replace the joint and throw a tack weld on it so it never moves? sure disassembly would require a little grinding but its nothing we havent done before.

Got the recall notice on Friday, took it I yesterday.

Failed the inspection and will be out of service till parts arrive next week.

Thanks. I was wondering the same. Mine is tucked away for the winter and I don't want to haul it to the dealer on my open trailer with tons of salt on the roads.

Only affects models with Power Steering
Just dropped sometime this afternoon
No info on a fix or inspection just yet. Only mentions Steering Joint B in the title.
More information coming Friday September 4th. I will post any more information pertaining when it's available.

Ordered the parts, seems the joint-knuckle is on backorder till early October.
Started removing side and front fender last night.
Had easy access to the lower joint-bolt, tried to remove it and it was so tight that the head stripped.

Funny side effect is that after attempting to remove the bolt, the steering is now working normally again.

Last year I purchased a set of these and today I finally got to use them REXBETI Bolt & Nut Remover

Also intense to see how stripped the inside of that joint is, but somehow the shaft that goes direct to the steering assembly looks to be in good/great shape.

now, the waiting game for the parts.

I broke 1 of mine off. Then ruined the knuckle trying to drill an extract the broken bolt. I already had 2 used knuckles from ebay on hand.

I referenced this back in post 48, but I found the recall parts # was different from the original parts number. I believe @HondaTech said this is done to keep track of warranty parts numbers?
CORRECTION: it was @toddvdh who said this might be to keep track of vendors.

The point being: go to a parts house like RMATV and look up the original number and try to find it and you might be able to get it much sooner. FYI, this part is also used on several Honda cars, so an automotive dealer may even have it.

Don't forget the bolts! I had a harder time finding them than the actual joint.

Well I drug my feet all summer and didnt get this recall done and now season is here and I wont have time to leave it at the shop. Hope like hell my bad planning dont leave me stranded this fall
