Original 2015.

My starter just went out at 850 miles, $285 OEM from Honda in Denver. The magnets in the starter broke up.

Just took it for a week-long Colorado trip. Now I have a clunking noise somewhere around where the rear driveshaft goes into the rear diff

That’s insane. The oem part is $60 online and takes ten minutes to replace. Take it back and scream.

$60 Online is about what I paid for it. I checked out one dealer and it was $420.00 to have it installed and at another dealer it was $330.00 just for the starter. Take out three bolts and it's off. Put the bolts back in and your done.

I could not find a single starter of any type that I could go buy and the same day, the OEM I had to buy was literally the only one in the state of Colorado. It hurt to be sure but when you drove 2000 miles to run the machine, you want to get back on the trails asap. It only took me 5 minutes to replace the dang thing

I bought mine from Rocky Mountain but the price has skyrocketed since then. Sorry. :(

Sounds like vendors are same as those that sell $5 gallons of drinking water after a hurricane.

I keep eyeing the aftermarket ones on Amazon. Around $50 - they are simple devices really. I'm thinking that it might be good to have an extra one in storage before any big ride

I've pulled many a starter apart and cleaned them up to have them work for another year or so.
What ever ya need to do to get out on the trails when no one has one close.

Just bought a new to me 2015. Has 8000km and seems to be running strong. Look forward to many enjoyable days this year. The 700 -4 the guy had 18000 km onnit. Always great to see the high mile machines.

Bumping this thread for new P500 shoppers. Best reliability means more $ for mods.

My cost for maintaining just went up, I replaced the battery after 5 years, still works but next week I am leaving for the mountains for a week and if it goes we all know it will be in the middle of nowhere. I am one of those proactive guys (pat on back goes here).

2020 with no mechanical issues. My only gripe is the powder coating on the frame is easily scratched off, it’s about as durable as paint. I’m constantly touching it up so it doesn’t rust

2016 and except for a battery nothing, thought i needed brake pads but just some sand in them. Put the old ones back on after cleaning everything up. Quit power washing it and you wont notice the scratches on the frame.
