I've got a 2016 1000/5 and the last couple weeks it feels like the machine can't properly decide which gear it should be in. It feels like it may be a slipping clutch problem. Spins up, shift up, takes a sec to find the gear. Seems like it may behave better in low or sport mode. I checked the trans fluid. Looks like there's plenty oil on the dip stick (checked with it not screwed in).

Is this enough info to go on for a basic diagnostic?
Have any of you guys run into this type behavior?
If its time for a new clutch(s), what could I expect to pay to have them changed?

Machine has just over 4k miles on it.

Thanks!
:)

Do this clutch relearn
If it has this rib on the housing below the bolt, the clutch update has likely been done.
Compliments of Honda Tech.

how old is the main battery?

When the main battery gets weak, the shifting gets weird or nonexistent. Power steering will also suffer. If you put it on a battery charger and it works fine then it’s the battery. Also check your grounds…it can cause the same phenomena.

The DCT is controlled by an electric shift motor.

Put the machine in MT mode.

Watch rpm as you shift, try and shift around 4k rpm. You should see a small 1 or 2 bar spike in the tachometer between shifts. If it spikes a large amount, it's probably the 1-3-5-R clutch. You'll see that spike only going into odd number gears.

Does it rev up alot before moving during initial takeoff as well?

No, it doesn't rev up on takeoff.

I don't have the upgraded clutch cover, so checking with local dealer on that one. Going to try the relearn tomorrow. Battery is strong, just replaced it last fall.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Anything flashing on the dash when the issue occurs?

just some friendly advice - I would double check battery connections, battery itself and the grounds as mentioned above - it’s easy to do and knocks an item off the list - I’ve had batteries with short life spans so just saying

It's not a belt problem. It's something way more serious and expensive to fix.
