I posted this in the 700 forum also so i hope thats ok but, I'm going to be getting a pioneer in a few days but I keep going back and forth between the 2. I plan on using either one for farm work such as running cattle, hauling wood, pulling small trailer, hunting rig during hunting season and a little bit of trail riding. Now I had my mind made up on a 17 p700-4 deluxe with the paddle shift then I thought I would want a p1000 then now I get to reading about clutch issues so now I'm confused and i want something dependable.I had a ranger 500 midsize and I sold it and need something to replace it pretty quick.
Honda has the clutch issue figured out. One of my best friends have a 700, its a good trail machine as long as it's not to steep. The 1000 has got a lot of power for work or play. What we are finding out about the 1000's is High range is for 20 MPH or more with no trailer, think that's where most of the clutch issues came from.

If you are going to work the 700, you may be disappointed in power.

Figured out? That's a bit of a stretch. The 700 does fine on steep. It may be slow but it will still climb. Mine has never stopped before making it to the top. Slower than some other machines but I still make it.

I had a 700 and sold it for the 1000. Even though I could pull a heavy loaded trailer of hay on flat ground with the 700 it was a disaster in the steeper mountain country. The high 1st gear was horrible, poor downhill engine braking and just to high geared for mountain trails around here.
It only has 3 gears, with torque converter. The 1000 is still a bit higher geared than I want but it's a helluva lot better than the 700.

Go to my video in burnt out clutches before 400 mile and listen to my transmission after the fix

Thats another thing that's making it hard, right now the price difference between 700-4 deluxe and 100-5 deluxe is 2k and has me leaning toward going big the first time.

No contest there with that price difference.

Go with the P1000.

Now if you were talking $9495 verse the $14,595 that I was looking at when I got mine, I would have strongly leaned towards the P700 but for only $2k difference turf mode and the better downhill engine braking along with better interior room, LED lighting, tires, 14" aluminum wheels and self leveling shocks you are getting a serious bargain in my opinion.

The 700 dosen't have compression braking at all. Same step hill we both climbed, his 700 couldn't spin the tires/ thats not what you would want do do anyway, and barley made it up, the 1000 crused up the hill, I was getting ready to leave it with him, because I wasn't going to be with him if he would have had to back down that hill.

Never had that problem in mine and I've climbed some crazy steep hills.

Yeah but how long has this been? How come they haven't rolled this out to other people having issues?

Bout 3 Weeks, They were having a lot of problems with clutches, wasn't the clutches ,it is the oil relief valve s in the transmission that does start the shifting process. I think they are just starting to release this to the dealers that have the most qualified tec's and will work there way through the rest. And I think they will roll this out to everybody

Very well could be. I've gone up hills where I couldn't see over the hood it was so steep. I've yet to have mine stop on even long ones. The only other difference I could think of is altitude. Not sure where you are but I'm in TN.

Lot of poeple say the same, but mine was a dawg for sure.

Here is a video of a hill I tried over and over. Tried slow, medium and fast. Going balz out was the highest I got up it and still didn't make it.

Same hill with my 1000. A delightful breeze climbing it.

2K is more in my ball park. When I was talking about upgrading it was over 5 if I wanted the 5 deluxe. I've said it before and still believe which ever one you choose, you are still getting the best machine for its class. Enjoy your new Honda.

I'm going to make my decision tomorrow while I'm at the dealer and then I'm not going to look back and then the fun will start by accessorizing. I really appreciate every ones input you have given me lots of great info.

That ain't right... I think it was a common issue with the 700's when they first rolled out. Something with the exhaust maybe?? Anyway, I'm with ya on the 1000.. the power is incredible! I came from a p500 and there's just no comparison. And the p500 has a better power to weight ratio than the 700!!!

Something is definitely different with mine. Not sure what it is but I've climbed hills that steep and even steeper. Mine has never bogged down like that, it keeps going. Like I said it isn't super fast but I've never had to back down a steep hill.
