Let's see if we can't figure this out.
First off my P1K5 is a beast. No issues. However, I'd like to try to figure out why mine surges in gear once warmed up and why the clutches stay somewhat engaged. In order to shift smoothly, I need to apply a decent amount of pressure to the brake.
Example, if I am in L or H and foot off brake it will roll forward. If I am in R it will roll backwards. To test this, I put it in R on a hill and faced downwards. I let off the brake and it rolled forward, but every revolution it would grab and try to engage (lightly, not enough to stop it or lug the engine). In other words imagine it rolling forward and going wahh wahh wahh each revolution trying to lightly engage in R. It does the same in forward when in gear and pointed up a hill letting it roll backward.
Is it an uneven spot on the clutch rubbing once it heats up causing it to "grab?"
Or, is it related to the oil pressure and I am feeling it "surge" in pressure causing the clutches to bump together?
Anyone else notice this?

I posted it in another thread didnt know if you had and if it made any difference.
Not yet. I am a tad gun shy to mess with the clutches. I am trying to find out if anyone else has experienced this, or if it's just me. If it is just me, I will probably proceed with your posting. I hate to mess with it since I don't consider it to be acting "wrong". If nobody else's acts this way, I guess it will rule mine as abnormal, and I may need to perform this procedure. (See my dilemma as mine hooks up HARD and does not even consider slipping. I climbed a hill in 4WD Lock Low 1, and it spun tires and dug for 100 yards. Over 300 miles and no issue besides being curious about this slight rubbing/touching of clutches in gear once it heats up).
On an unrelated note - I found it interesting though that a few people who have had multiple clutch replacements are now saying their dealers are being told it is the oil pressure sensor going bad/being faulty causing the clutches to get smoked. Not the clutches being bad/weak.

I have experienced exactly what you're talking about. If I roll forward down a hill while the vehicle is in reverse, it will try to engage the clutch multiple times in sequence. You are experiencing something that is normal.

Hmm I've never actually tested it that way. But I will. I know it'll roll when on a hill and I get off the brake. One of the very few minor complaints I have about the model. Needs a "hill hold" feature bad.

Not many people have tested that way.

Dang @500, don't you know to put it in reverse when you're going in reverse or forward when you want to go forward? We've got a lot of learning for you.

Hey now! I'm still in the R&D phase. I've got at least 700 more miles to go before I'm done. It's not supposed to swim either, but I'm still gonna put pontoons on it for pond fishing!

Pontoons my arse. Why navigate a waterway when these things can jump them.
Fine... I'll put the pontoons on hold for now and focus on hydraulically actuated wings (with a rear deployed parachute).
It would be cool to see one of these dropped out of a transport plane and parachuted down into a field.

I'll check em.
Oil is good. I did my own, so no need to worry someone else messed up there ;)
Been doing this from before the break in service and only once it heats up good. Like I said though, no issues besides pure curiosity.
Not sure a bad ground would be heat related, but I also am no DCT tech either.

Mine has had the same symptoms for 800 miles now. It's not issue, I'm pretty sure it is by design.

It may not be intentional by design, but if you're going forward you should not be in reverse gear.

It just took a studious fellow like myself to say I wander what would happen if I put it in forward and went backward or put it in backward and went forward LOL.
On a serious note, after thinking about it I'm about 99% certain what's happening is when the computer senses rotation over 2mph it is telling the clutches to engage as the system probably reads off of rotation not direction. Same reason when rolling down a hill in low 1 the clutches don't automatically disengage. The computer is telling it to lock up. That's my theory and I'm sticking to it.

I agree with you, that's exactly what I think it is.
