Firearm of choice for deer season?

What caliber, model rifle does everybody use for hunting deer. I prefer my old trusty Remington 700 bdl in 270 with 150 grain core lokts

For elk I use my Tikka T3 in 243. Federal Blue Box 100gr soft points. Puts meat on the table no problem.

For now my go to is a Savage mod. 11 lightweight in 6.5 creedmoor. 3x9 40mm Leupold. Hornady 129 gr. SST's. 3/4 inch group at one hundred yards. A little over 6 inch drop at 300 yards with a 1 and 3/4 inch group.
My second go to is a Winchester high wall in 7mm WSM. 4X12 40mm Leupold. Winchester factory 150 gr. ammo. Under a inch at 100 yards if I do my job.
For black powder my go to is a custom build Southern Va. (Cir. 1775 - 1785) flintlock rifle built by Wick Ellerbe in 54 Cal. Shooting a .530 patched round ball.

I used my trusty Remington 870 express for 25+ years here in Iowa. Recently purchased land in Wisconsin and wanted a gun I could use in both. Just picked up a Ruger American .350 Legend. Love the gun and ammo is affordable. Since it’s a straight walled cartridge, I can use it in Iowa too.

I wish Minnesota would do that too! Where I'm at in MN it can only be shotgun, muzzleloader, or pistol. I use a 20ga 870 Express with a smoothbore slug barrel and iron sights that I've had since I was a kid. A few years back I bought a CVA Wolf (I know they're cheap, but I didn't know how much I'd actually go out when it's that effing cold). Last year a added a Vortex Diamondback 2 to 7 to the Wolf and it's actually pretty damn accurate so I mostly used it for longer range areas during slug season.

I used to my Beretta 96FS INOX or my Ruger Vaquero 44Mag, but I got superstitious as I would ONLY EVER see fawns and spikes when hunting with those! Four years in a row! Switched back to by shotgun muzzleloader combo and shoot a 9 pionter the first year. Three years ago I traded the Vaquero for an H&K VP9 and it was a great decision! I even got into some casual USPSA competition shooting with it. Fun pistol!

I have a Ruger Gunsite Scout .308 and a M+M M10 (or AKM) that I used when I used to go out to Wyoming, but my job hasn't allowed that to happen for years. ...It looks like I need to get my priorities straight...

Remington bdl 30-06.180 gr. Updated with a synthetic stock. bought over 40 years ago.

Fits nice on either the 2018 pioneer 1000-3, 2006 trx 500 or 1997 trx300.

Have my grandpas old savage 110 in 7mm-08 little booger kicks like a mule but it’s priceless and will be passed on someday.

Depends on terrain and foliage, I like my 1895 Guide in 45-70 Govt., also my Ruger American in .308, and when I go gillie and smelly my .500 S&W Mag. works up close and personal, for open country long shots I like my M77 in .270 Winchester

Love my guide gun! Kicks like hell but defiantly kicks even harder on the other end!!!

I’ve been wanting to get a 6.5 haven’t been around one much but what I’ve hears it’s an awesome little round!

Maybe I’m ignorant but from how I’ve seen deer hunted in Iowa it’s got to be the most dangerous way of hunting deer I’ve ever seen.

What I observed was deer being hunted in a similar fashion that pheasants would be hunted in a corn row with blockers and walkers. Last I checked, deer don’t fly...so all shots are taken shoulder height and lower vs above.

Never seen so much lead flying in close quarters before.

I don’t see how a slug would be safer than a rifle.

OK I admit I'm from Nova Scotia. Got that guy last Saturday. Three bucks altogether.
Choosing a gun is a lot like choosing a s/s. You pick what your comfortable with. Friends/associates/family have a huge influence.
First honda was a 1972 CB 350. Look that up.

I have normally hunt with my 308 but I'm thinking I of like the rifle I bought for my daughter a couple of years back better for FL deer. It's a Ruger 7mm-08. It's just a bad little gun that doesn't destroy as much meat.

.30-06 has always been my favorite, but I also love .308, .270 and even .243 that is a perfectly ethical kill. Back east I've used .30-30 and .44 Magnum lever guns, but out west you can't get within that range usually. Today all I hear about is the 6.5, but I was killing deer 40 years ago with a .30-30 and seemed to manage just fine.

I know people that use a .223 to hunt deer. In SD that’s the minimum caliber.

Yup a 22 will kill a deer, some rounds are just more efficient than others.

I'd rather have a quick clean takedown, no point in making the animal suffer. Also I am fat and out of shape so searching for one in the brush and thickets we have around here is not enjoyable. Im in it for the meat not the sport.
