I just added new tusk terrabite 28x10-14s with tusk beadlocks wheels and love them! Just put 150 miles on this trip and couldn't be happier with them. Top speed affected? Maybe slightly but I also added two storage racks, spare tire, tool box, highlift jack and the whole family with a drop of maybe 7-10 mph top speed. Not bad in my opinion for hundreds of pounds added! So I only hit 57 instead of 65 jumping on the highway but for those very short times the tradeoff is no contest.

did you go with 5+2 offset on all 4 corners?

I dont have the deluxe edition. The stock base model tire/rim set-up weighed around 33-35lbs.

For what it's worth, I went with RP Spartans a year ago (military grade 12 ply, 500 lb 50 mi run flat) Unbelievable tires! I run 10 psi, they are a little rougher than stock Big Horns and they do rob a little power because of the extra weight (41 lbs front and 46 lbs rear, each) They are the exact same size and tread pattern as the Big Horns. Have really put these tires to the test, 1000 miles on rough sharp rocks and all terrain last summer, with zero issues. Have since stopped carrying a spare, and replaced it with a chain saw mount. The extra piece of mind is worth every penny!

It's funny you'd post this thread now.. I've been looking at tire/wheel combos for the last week or so. Your Terrabites are one of the lightest DOT 8 ply tires available (from the list I've looked at) I have a buddy that is running them on his Polaris 900 trail, and really likes them.
Here's what I found;

Tusk Terrabite 28/10R/14 =33lbs
STI Roctane XS 28/10R/14 = 33.8 lbs
EFX Motovator 28/9.5R/14 =41.8 lbs
EFX MotoClaw 28/10R/14 =36.2 lbs

My current EFX MotoHammers; Front 27/9R/14 =28.8 lbs, Rear 27/11R/14 = 36.3 lbs
My 28x10x12 Berserkers with 1100# capacity are also 41# each.

I put aftermarket rims and Terrabite 28/10/14's on all four corners and it took a lot out of the machine. I have looked through the forum for other discussions about this with no luck. Getting the tires spinning was much easier before and I used to hit 67mph fairly easy. I am lucky to get to 60 now on a downhill straight away. Did you guys see the same power loss? It's not gutless, but there was a definite dropoff.

The more unsprung weight and rotational mass you add to a machine the more it lowers its performance for acceleration, top speed, and suspension handling. Physics - for every action is an equal and opposite reaction.

I have the LE and I would like to run 30” tires . I bought the 2.5” highlifter lift last year. I have not installed it yet. Today I read on the forum that it will not work with the LE. I am doing the peace trail early March and I am trying to gear up ahead of time. I was going to get a cheap after market spare axle but that also looks like that is out..?? I will have to buy oem I guess. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

To my knowledge there are no aftermarket axles for the LE; OEM is the only option. You will need forward arched arms to clear true 30" tires without rubbing.

Most run the Super Atv arms but there are other brands out there. I have the SATV and have been happy with them so far. Here’s mine sitting next to a stock 1000-5.

PLEASE NOTE: The LE models have different axels than all the other Pioneer 1000 models, in that the LE differentials are larger, thus each axle is shorter. Also every one of the 4 axles are a different length and part number. To my knowledge NONE of the aftermarket axles will fit correctly on the LE. You might shoehorn one in but when the machine is set on the ground from full droop it will likely bind and if driven most certainly will break something. Just a cautionary FYI

Having one spare axle for an LE is moot unless you know which one you are going to break. You need a full set of 4 for proper insurance.

I run 27s. My buddy put 29s on his machine and hates them. He lost way too much power and has a hard time on some of our rougher trails. We ride at 8000’-14000’.
Ive never understood why so many guys put on huge tires and have to deal with rubbing and power lose just so they look cool? I look at them and think they didn’t think through their decision very well. I guess if you ride on nice groomed trails it doesn’t matter. We don’t have those in CO.

I think the reason a lot of us run larger tires is we think it improves ride quality. I run 9 PSI in my 30x10R14 8 ply Kenda Mastodon HT's and it rides like I'm in the clouds. Diameter handles potholes better.
