I just met a guy riding a Rocky Mountain of some sort. He was wearing a mask. On a trail. By himself. During an activity that requires as much oxygen as you can get. It boggles the mind...

Been doing some 5s and 10s. I started doing intermittent fasting 20/4 a couple weeks ago. The weight is just falling off. The bad news is 10 miles is about my max fasted. Any more than that and it is not an enjoyable ride.

My wife has recommended intermittent fasting for a while. For the last several weeks I've simply been skipping breakfast UNLESS I'm going riding. I end up eating dinner around 6ish, and don't eat lunch until 1:30 or so that's...what, 19 hours or so?
It's been pretty easy. I've kinda always felt like I could skip breakfast, but was always told it was bad for you. Doing this, I've been down as low as 230 for the first time since probably the late 2000's. Still dropping a bit, down from 280 at one point. My wife is furious at me.

I've also pulled the trigger on a new bike: A YT Jeffsy core 1...

Won't be here until mid November. At 150/145mm it's probably way more bike than I need, but It just caught my eye and decided why the hell not. At 51 I don't know how long I will be able to do this, so why not make hay while the sun is still shining?

I raced in the 55 to 60 age group and was Arizona state champion for 4 of the 5 years. I made National #3 one year. I quit riding Mt bikes at age 61. Getting too old to get hurt and still liked to go fast. My riding ability and confidence went fast after I quit training. I do ride my E-bikes on the easy trails and sidewalks.

I had a similar story—life got in the way for years, and when I finally dusted off my mountain bike, I felt like a kid again. Sure, I wasn’t as fit, and the gear felt outdated, but the joy of just getting out there was worth it. Starting slow helped a ton, even if it was just easy trails or laps around the neighborhood.
One thing I learned the hard way is to make sure your bike and gear are in good shape. Goatheads and flats used to drive me crazy until I switched to tubeless tires—absolute game-changer. And if you’re planning to hit the trails more regularly, having some kind of protection, like https://sundaysinsurance.co.uk/ , is worth it.

Getting back in shape (for lack of a better word, in my case) is a grind, but even I am surprised how far I've come.

In other news...the YT finally arrived...
