I’m going to have to look at the back seat of a 1000 then. I spent a day riding in shooter’s 2 seater at TO. I liked it. If the back seat is in the ballpark of comfortable I have to seriously consider the RMAX4. You have your daughters wedding and won’t be at MOM now, correct?

I rode in the back of a Talon X4 for about 20 minutes and it felt cramped to me. It had a speaker mounted to the rear grab bar though in the center so it could have been mostly that being where my knee naturally wanted to be.

The motor failures I’ve heard about with the KRX makes me very nervous about getting that 4 seater but sitting in one is definitely comfortable both front and back.

I have to look at the P1K6 in person as well. It’s the least appealing to me personally but it probably makes the most sense in reality for my family.

Damn decisions. Lol.

No I will not be here from September 25th to October 2nd.

The Pioneer 1000-6 will have the most legroom, foot room by far of what you mentioned above. That said, the seating in the RMAX4 front and back is comfortable, especially on the back over a long day.

Dang it Jackal! I don’t want to hear the P1K6 is definitely something I have to let the family compare if legroom is a big part of the decision. I want to rule it out beforehand. Help a brother out here. 🤣😂. My 10 year old is 5’5 already. There is a decent likelihood all three of my girls will be around the 6’ mark.

Dumb question I could easily go find the answer to…is the R Spec the base model for the Rmax? And is the XT-R the highest?

I see multiple Yamaha’s available at pretty much every dealer site I look at and they are being discounted 2k below MSRP or more. WTF is Honda’s problem? They still seem to just have a trickle of machines. They are available but it seems to require more effort to find one in a dealer showroom.

Is Yamaha produced/assembled in the states? I know the Honda’s are.

Is Honda just being more cautious to not “flood” the market with machines?

The XT-R and limited are being discounted $5 to $6k at several dealers. But the XT-R like mine jumped from $26k to 29.2K for 2023, so you're shooting for $24k and tax no fees for a good price.

Yamaha’s are built in Georgia. They have a robust supply chain. Local dealer in Knoxville has 20+ RMAX4 1000 on hand and six Talon 1000RS Live Valves.

Honda is having supplier issues, mainly shocks from SHOWA that they use now. That's the hold up and why only Fox Live Valve 1000R were announced.

JB I live 50 minutes from the factory. They also have a proving grounds on site. It’s a big place. Made in Georgia

JB all brake lines are stainless, a arms are stout. You gotta have the drive modes they are great. Instrument cluster well placed and easy to read steering wheel and grad handle have thick soft grip compound

So after 4000 miles I finally bent my first tie-rod on the RMAX while guiding a group down that gravel road in Tackett Creek known as No Business Hollow.

We use 2 machines and winches to pull it back enough to finish the last 45 miles of the day.

Took it apart this am and pressed it straight enough until the new ones arrive.

Turns out @lee advice for field replacement of the tie-rod boot clamp on the rack end off an old ATC 110 fitted the RMAX perfectly. I just increased my reliability by 1000%

So are you sayin, the Ole Coot can drive a little recklessly? Did you do the 1,500 mile service on the belt?
No I'm saying some of the "gravel" in my gravel road riding is 24" in diameter and don't move fer chit when you aren't paying attention.

So on the night before I pick up my 2024 Pioneer 1000-5 Deluxe (for ME) I have accumulated 4500 miles on the RMAX4 1000, only things broken were from operator error (broke glass windshield, cut a sidewall, and bent a tie rod) beyond that have only done 2 oil changes and still on OEM brake pad - but they need replaced (just been lazy).

Still I could recommend this machine as a great trail machine that is very maneuverable and comfortable for all 4 people. That said the only gripe has been and still is the in cabin noise with the CVT coupled with the windshields front & back combined with the roof compounds the noise heard by the occupants. If I could have the Talon powertrain in this chassis, it would be the perfect combination. Wife likes how this machine sits and rides so it is staying around.

EDIT- Unless the damn engine blows up 200 miles later 😑

Well after 2 years and 4 months with 4600 miles on the RMAX, the engine started making BAAAAD noises. Did a compression check and left cyl was at 80 psi and right cyl at 40 psi. they are supposed to be at 115 psi. Decided to let dealer look into it since I haven't rebuilt a Honda engine since 1989 when I stopped racing ATV's (much simpler times). Anyhoo got call from the shop to come see the issues. Right rod bearing was coming apart debris in oils screen, etc. cylinder scored slightly, cam showed odd wear, if I went with their recommendations repair bill would be about $9,300 🥲

I talked with mechanic who said he has rebuilt about 9 of these exact engines all from being (ab)used as rentals at Windrock Park, all were rebuilt with approx. 3K miles on them. He said other than the internal damage he noted how clean my entire CVT system was stating no sign of wear which he was surprised for the miles I had on the machine. I asked about nFlow remanufactured engines out of Evansville, IN and they have used them before with good results.

nFlow will remanufacture the RMAX engine for $3995 shipping both ways, 3 week turn around time, and included and a 6 month engine warranty. Decided to go that route and save $4K.

Once I get this Yamaha machine back up and running going to swap it for a 2024 / 25 Talon 1000X-4 with the Showa shocks :cool:

Hate spending this money but in the end will get away from the darn CVT which didn't cause me any issues beyond the damn engine RPM noise :D

Oddly, there was no sign of dirt or water ingestion, I serviced it every 1500 miles using the Yamaha oil change kit directly from Yamaha. Mechanic said it looked like it got hot at one time, which it did only once a year ago that I have no explanation of. He noted quite a bit of sintered metal and a light coating of gray sludge in case bottom that he showed me, he said that was unusual. Nothing to pinpoint what exactly caused it.

Good thing is plenty of inventory close by to replace it 😁 I'm moving on and not looking back.......
