For you hunters out there. Is this buck I photographed on Tuesday in NW Missouri a White-tail Deer or a Mule Deer? I believe both kinds are in that area, but I don't know the difference.

A mule Deer has a white bullseye on its ass, whiter nose, much bigger ears and thinner taller antlers
best way to tell them apart.

NW Arkansas, we live between the White and the War Eagle rivers on a plateau that has a lot of rabbits and other vermin. The Eagles always show up about this time of year.

Hoping we get a batch of Wood Duck ducklings next year. We get them visiting a couple of spring fed ponds in our back yard, so I figured it was worth a try, (though the odds are only about 20% or so, from what I've read). Thinking about adding a neon "vacancy" sign like they use on motels.

Wood Duck Nest Box Copy


Since I installed the nest box, I've added a ridged duct pipe around the slanted pole so critters can't climb up to raid any future nest - at least that's the plan.
