How do you like the use of all those W's?!

Ok, so back with another question for the group...

Currently looking to get a winch installed and based on the great info in this forum and the aftermarket post...I'm looking at KFI for the mount. I'm leaning towards going with their KFI Assault Winch as well, BUT I'm throwing it out to you guys. Is there a difference between their winch vs a HF brand? or even a Tractor Supply brand?

Just to give you guys a reason - the first thing I'm gonna do with it is pull out a tree...so have at it guys, let me know what you suggest!!

It's hard to say, debating winches is like debating electric tools. Dewalt vs Milwaukee, vs Makita, ect....

I have a KFI mount on my Pioneer 1000-5, 3500 champion winch with synthetic rope. It works but it's weak.

I have a KFI mount on my Teryx4, 5500 long drum Harbor Freight Apex, it works great.

I have had my Pioneer longer and used the champion more often, I just need a bigger winch. I will eventually get a bigger one for the Pioneer, probably the Apex.

Harbor Freight has the the Apex 5500 long drum on sale sometimes for $199.

Probably not much difference in the winches. I’d compare the published amp draw under max load for each. Most likely the one KFI sells will fit there mount the best. I’ve had great luck with KFI products. Haven’t used there winches.

Apex from Harbor Freight.
We use 4 5500 cap. One front and one rear on our pioneer the one on a utility trailer and one we use on a Conex can to pull in various hit & miss engines and various engines on stands like flathead v8s or the occasional diesel.
Good luck.

I bought the Viper 4500 from the store here. Very little it hasn't been able to do for me including pulling down 80' trees that have landed on other trees.... that needed some block/tackle and anchoring the rear of the 700, but it bought them down just as well as my chain hoist did.

Why would we worry?

I have the HF Badland ZXR4500 (not the Apex) in the P1K5 and the Viper V2 6000 widespool (from the HondaSXS Club Store) on the T1K2. I can say without reservation that would buy either of these winches again, no problem. Both have been used without any issues, and both are mounted with the appropriate KFI winch mounting plate.

My buddy has the HF Apex 5500 long drum on his 1000-6 and uses it often as well. Again, no problems recommending any of these.
