My Tusk esp kit was delivered this afternoon! It was too late to get started on the install but I did open the box and have a look. The first thing I noticed is the Rugged name, I thought that was a different kit.

Likely different decal, same parts. One drive with the PS installed will make you forget about it. Great mod. Or time for a HondaSxS.com sticker.

Just finished installing it, I can steer it with one finger. I love it!

TIP for future installs: Don’t over tighten the mounting bracket! I had the 6 bolts that hold the bracket on too tight and it was hard to steer. I loosened all of them and it turns very easy now.

when you turn the wheel, does the motor and bracket move at all?

Was the motor wiring clip out the top or bottom? There was a problem with older instructions. Had to loosen the mounting plate to find the sweet spot to eliminate flex. @trigger and I had a similar issue with a @SuperATV unit a few years back.

The flex I am seeing is on a new SuperATV kit I just received from Black Friday sale. I guess I’ll have to loosen up the bracket again to see if it will settle. I loosened it up once and slid it toward the drivers side and the wobble of the motor decreased, but it still moves some.

I found that when I first tightened down the mounting bracket it would bind up a little. To remedy this I loosened up the bolts a little so the bracket could move, worked the wheel back and forth to find the position the mount likes to be and tightened it down. Be sure to check the clearance between the steering shaft a brake master cylinder reservoir.

when I first installed it I noticed a lot of flex. After loosening the bolts and worked the steering and let it settle into place I tightened it back up andI was so happy it was working I didn’t look to see if it still flexed lol. I’ll take a look after while and post again

This is maybe a good time to bring up a glitch mine has done since install. Clearances look good, no rubbing; it does flex.

Issue is that sometimes, not very often, it binds/has resistance when turning left. It will usually 'release' with a pop/bang. Have watched it do it while sitting still; doesn't rub. Can't tell where the bang comes from.

Sound familiar to anyone?

LOVE the power steering; quicker through the woods (if ya want)!

Never had that issue, mine's been flawless. You may want to loosen up the shaft and see if you can find a happier place with less bind/flex.

I would definitely do as Trigger suggested and loosen everything up and see if it will settle into place. If that doesn’t work the manual does give a procedure in the troubleshooting section for poor steering in only one direction. I’ll have to read it again but it’s something to do with voltage. It might be sending too much voltage when you turn left

#2 explains making an adjustment for uneven power from left to right, I know it’s not your exact problem but it might be worth a shot

Appreciate you putting that up. Yeah, the vast majority of the time it's perfect. The issue only happens occasionally. Our rides are typically around 20 miles; it may not occur on a ride at all. But when it does is you can tell, for sure.

Avi8or I just checked and there is still some flex while turning in both directions. I read a review a while back that talked about the lower steering shaft bind (not rubbing) and the guy put a shim under the top plate of the mount and that cured his problem. I’m going to look into it more tomorrow.

Ok. Would be good to know.

I loosened the bracket again and turned side to side to let it settle and retightened. Still wobbles though

Second @trigger comment to loosen the shaft spline bolts to ensure no bind. Let them slide freely to see if it helps to rule out shaft length or bind issues. Should work without a shim IMO.
As a last resort. Remember when mount bolts are loose, mount plate might only settle in position of the last directional turn, not both. Try moving a bit, tighten and check, repeat.

As this is a common problem, seems like rubber grommets on mounting bolts would be good to cushion any residual flex stress. Any ideas @SuperATV ?? Thx.

Not understanding exactly what you're trying to do. The mounting bracket goes where the mounting bracket goes. I didn't shim or move anything. There will still be some flex on it but not to the point of binding the shafts. Loosen one shaft and turn in both directions watching the shaft slide, find the comfortable spot and tighten it back up. Should be good to go.

The shafts can’t be adjusted on mine, there’s a groove in the shaft where the bolt goes through. The bolt has to be completely removed to slide the shaft and if the slot is not lined up the bolt will not go back in. The upper shaft is made to move but it does so freely, no bolt in that spot so it’s always free to slide about an inch.

Just to be clear...the stock steering shaft was made the same way, bolts had to be completely removed for the shaft to slide
