P1000 Trailer Centering Question

I’m planning on towing my 18’ car hauler out west, so I won’t need to buy an entirely different trailer for the 1000. I mounted a Jobox, spare tire mount and two jerry cans on the front of the trailer which pushes Crunchy back a couple of feet. There’s about 1’ between the box and the 1000. Even still with the rear tires positioned center over the tandem axels, there is still 4’+ 2’ behind. My main question is, where I’m placing the rear tires over the tandem axels. Is that a good place to trailer the 1000, or should I move it forward or back so more of the 100 is over the trailer axels? Thanks!

You want about 10% of the trailer weight as hitch weight. There’s a $100 ball on amazon that will measure that if you don’t feel like your S.W.A.G. Is accurate.

? 1 how is weight of trailer empty on truck. I would say load pioneer back more so it adds no more weight to truck than trailer already has. Of course that depends on what truck you have and how heavy suspension is, too far forward rough ride too far back bouncing wiggling crap ride

I usually pull the machine forward until the tongue starts to drop just a little bit.

From the picture you could move the pioneer back some to be over the axles. That will level out the load. Too much tongue weight affects gas mileage.

When I haul 1 unit I load the single machine directly over the tandom axles. If you have added tongue weight, I would offset some of that weight by moving the machine back on the trailer.
If the tongue weight is too much, the trailer will wonder behind the tow vehicle. If theres too much tail weight the trailer will whip back and forth at speed and when going downhill.
The whole thing should be as level as possible when truck and trailer is loaded.

You want enough tongue weight prevent sway but not so much your loading the rear suspension and lightening the front of the tow vehicle.

It’s a 2017 F350 Gasser. But I am also carrying my 1400+ empty truck camper on the back as well. Plus I’m adding about 3-400 lbs on the front in that box, the stuff inside, gas cans etc..

I find when I center my engine/trans between the trailer axles on my 18' dovetail it works best.

I knew had the ford I forgot I would back it up 2 1/2 -3 ft see how it handles

you can possibly feel the trailer tilt as you creep forward and know that you have some weight on the tongue. And that may be good enough.
If you are comfortable with that, then go for it.

If you really want to know (not guess) then it is simple if you just find the nearest CAT station or weigh station to find out. They will let you weigh the trailer separately, then reload the sxs with just the trailer tires on the scales.
You want it to weigh 85 to 90% of the total weight. Shift the sxs until you have it right and mark where it needs to sit.

It will cost 20 bucks or so and take 20 minutes.
Most will say it isn't that important but it depends on you and what you are using to pull it.

For the record, I don't go through all this for a 1400 lb vehicle either. I will do this if I am using up half or more of my tongue weight/pull weight and I am going a long way or doing it multiple times with the same trailer/equipment.

With tandem axle it is not as noticeable as with single axle, but I watch as I am loading mine to see when the front of trailer makes a downward movement, then pull a little more forward. If you try to pick up on the tongue and it feels like it is nailed to the ground, it probably is more weight than is needed on the front ...... not speaking about a 10ton trlr ..... lol

I prefer mine a lot further back. My trailer is an 18' too. I've towed my trailer and P1k about 8000 miles in the last 2.5 years with the rear axle above the rear tandom or just further back

The motor is right under that center vertical cage support. When you’re driving on the trailer, center it between the axles or just slightly forward.

Camper wont affect trailer handling. You have to distribute the weight correctly. With all you shyt on the front I'd put the rear hub of pioneer even with rear hub of trailer....basically what @JTW said also.....maybe could put it even with back of trailer fender depending how much crap you have on front.

And with dual axles, trailer best when level to ground, had to get a proper drop hitch for both axles to ride same.

Back up to the trailer and before you put the trailer on the ball take a tape measure and measure from the ground to the top of rear fender well right in the center. Then put the trailer on the ball with jack off ground. Take another measurement to see how far the truck went down. Then load the p1 right over the axels. Take another measurement. With your truck being a 1 ton it should only be about a 1/2 inch drop from unloaded to loaded. The 1/2 inch drop will ensure enough tongue weight. You should not feel trailer hitting bumps or bucking at all. If you do move the p1 back some
