Traded ‘21 P700D for ‘24 P1000 D5

Hello!

We recently traded in our 2021 Pioneer 700 deluxe for a new 2024 Pioneer 1000 deluxe5. We have beasted 85 miles of challenging 4wd trails on the 2024. Our 2021 700 was at 1077 miles at trade in, we bought that new as well.

I am blown away by the 24 P1000! I loved our P700, but wow the P1000 is improved in so many ways! The best difference is the stability of the P1000! We are 4wding rough Sierra trails and I haven’t felt tippy at all! The P700 felt tippy just about every ride. I feel so confident over all the huge rocks, ruts, climbs and off-camber roads now!

So everything is amazingly better with the P1000 except some strange clutch or throttle jerkiness at low speeds. First off, the ‘sport’ mode is exactly like our ‘21 P700 rode all the time, higher revs etc. So I’ve used that a bit, tried manual and tried paddles with auto and sometimes it solves it and sometimes not.

What we did immediately is duct tape wrapped all door and dump latches, put on seat covers, ordered hard roof, winch, spare tire and today we lowered the psi to 16 all around. That made a HUGE difference immediately in ride and handling quality. We are riding very rough roads and slippery granite, very deep ruts and serious inclines, it’s tough 4wd around here and in the Sierra.

Anyway, I am the female human part of our team, which consists of two humans and two dogs. I am not technically savvy on some of these mechanical discussions, but I do drive quite a bit and have experience!

The first pic is our little red engine that could 2021 Pioneer 700. The rest is crossing the Pacific Crest in the new 2024 Pioneer 1000 today.

Thanks for the welcome!

So I found a short video of ‘clutch relearn’ for the Pioneer and wondered if this was something that should be done on a new 1000 that has not had its first service yet?

I see a few mentions of jerky type of behavior of the 1000 at low speed? Our 700 cruised at low speed better, but got squirrely over 15 or 20mph. The 1000 is just the opposite. The trails are so rough here you gotta take it slow much of the ride.

It looks like the low gear setting is for 5mph and under only which limits its use a bit.

Yep , exactly what GovtMule said !

Are you are having problems with holding a steady throttle at slower speeds on rough ground ? Try cutting a piece of outdoor carpet to fit the floor. It will stop your foot from sliding around on the plastic floor. Or invest in a Throttle Max.

I’m not sure if it’s the clutch, transmission or throttle lol. It’s a bit below 10mph around 7 or 8 mph, too fast for low gear, but seems to be too low revs for high gear to hold steady. Shifts gears back and forth, seems to sputter and lunge a bit.

It did seem improved on our last ride at about 10 hours and 75 miles of use. Also, lowering the tires to 16 psi helped immensely, maybe just not getting bounced around so much and seat covers helped sliding around on seat, keeping foot steady.
