P1000 Tire size question on OEM Steel wheels (maybe again? Point me in the right direction)

Hello all

I’ve done quite a bit of searching here and while I’ve found some info, nothing truly specific to what I’m needing answered.

I have on my 2020 1000-5 Pioneer the oem steel wheels.
Fronts 27x9x12
Rear 27x11x12

Now, I understand some have put 28x10’s on these rims, and don’t rub But nothing has been confirmed for me yet.
My question is, should I run 28x10’s or try to find 28’s with the stock 9/11 size?

I own a farm and use the machine for farm chores and running around the crap rocky roads around me. We have a trail we cut through the woods too. Any thoughts or recommendations? I don’t want to buy new rims. I don’t want to stay OEM tire or size. (Plus the oem tires are garbage)

Welcome from South Florida.

You can do either or......basically aesthetics. Running 10" wide tires on the OEM 12" wheels will work but you'll have a bigger sidewall bulge up front (nomo) 7" wide wheels, compared to the rear 9" wide wheels. Reason for the 10" tires most run is cause they also run aftermarket wheels with a 5+2 off-set (easy to rotate all 4 corners)

Keeping the rims the oem steelies makes it a pain in the ass.

Im not worried about the bulge but since I won’t be able to rotate the tires, staying the oem size 9/11 will probably be my best bet huh?

We have a very small farm. I ordered rims for ours but did put 28x14x9 Big Horn 2's on the front and 28x14x11's on the back. The rims are 5+2 and I have @RB3offroad 1" spacers on the rear to even up the track width. I went to the Takeover this year and upped the tire pressure to 14 to possibly eliminate a pinch flat. Normally we run 10 psi and they never rub. Welcome from Mississippi.#NTC

I just put itp blackwaters on my stock 14" wheels. 28x9 up front and 28x11 on the rear. I didn't want to buy new wheels either. The back tires rubbed the roll bar(the one at a 45° angle that goes down toward the hitch) when hitting a pretty good bump. After that I adjusted the preload on my fox shocks and installed some wheel spacers. I now have SuperATV a arms front and back. In these pics I had SuperATV arms on the back and the stock arms still on the front. No rubbing on the front with the stock arms.

To answer your question I would stay 9 on front and 11 on back. Unless you want to rotate tires but then you need new rims that are all the same size. If you put 10s front and back on your stock wheels then the front tires are gonna stick out further to the sides than the back tires.

If you stay stock (9/11) you can only rotate side to side (RF with LF.....RR with LR) if you are looking to keep the stock 12s and also be able to rotate them, best bet is to find 2 more front 12s and run them on all 4 corners with 9" or 10" wide tires. You can also put in a 1.5" spacer on the rear to even out the offset track. I like the 12s they have a smoother ride over the 14s. If you can find 2 extra 12" take offs I think you'll be happier with the ride 👍

No issue running 28x10x14's all the way around on stock rims.
I ran Roctane and Terribites in both 28x10x14 on stock rims.
I did originally put 1" spacers on the rear to make the offset look better.
Then upgraded to 1" in front and 1.5 in rear spacers.

The drawback is, of course, front to rear rotation, but otherwise, I was happy.

Both only had slight rubbing when hitting hard.

I use to run 28x10x12 blackwater evolution on the stock 12 inch wheels. I eventually got 2 more front stock steel wheels and used 4 front wheels with the same tires. I ended up putting spacers in the rear to even the track out buy its not a necessity. I still run 4 stock wheels on my 3 seater with 30x10x12 blackwaters but you have to have foward arched arms to run 30s. If I didn't ride these rutted out trails in Tennessee, I would've never went to arms and 30s.

Did that set up make the back tires shorter than the front tires since the back rims are wider? Or not enough to notice?

That’s cool! You run the 9” smaller front rims on front and rear??

That’s epic. Cool idea there. I like the skinny tire idea.
My suggestion for your application is an LT all terrain or mud terrain tire. I would get the same size wheel all the way around For rotation and easy to replace if one goes bad etc.
There also cheaper and ware better than UTV tires. Ive had a a set for the last 3 years and Ive been very happy with them. @BWAF has a farm and uses his rig like yours and has had LT’s on for a very long time and has been happy. If u look around you can get a nice set of 4 aftermarket wheels at a good livable price.

There also cheaper and ware better than UTV tires. Yeah I was thinking that after trying to find 28/10/12. There’s not much out there that isn’t 1k in just tires.
I need to find some radial tires I can throw on haha.

I need to find some radial tires I can throw on haha.
Get u some 15” wheels to go with them And your still under 1k

11000 miles of dirt roads, chip and seal plus work fine on trails, @Tramguage1 just made switch after riding in mine and I think he is pleased too.
