P1000 Test drove a P1000-3 eps and really like it but........

Now that Honda has a solution on the 18 Pioneers for clutch and heat I am ready to trade my 700, that has been a faithful workhorse on the farm for 4 years. 1000 performed night and day better than my 700. The dealer with give me 7k for it and charge me 14k for the 18 p1000 that is fair. The but is the new 18 Polaris Ranger 1000 seems to beat the Honda in about every category. I have to check it out before I buy the Honda.

Any comments or suggestions on the route to go? I will give you my impressions after test driving the Ranger.

All in what you want. You want a belt instead of clutches go for the Polaris. Well actually the Polaris has a centrifugal clutch like the snowmobiles I grew up riding in the great white north. The Honda has had clutch problems, (I've had none), and the Polaris machines have burnt to the ground and had total recalls on almost every model. Again, it's what problem you can deal with best should it pop up.;)

I drove the 1000 pioneer a few days ago and I have to say it was very impressive. About the only negative is the price...assuming the clutches have been dealt with.

Have you checked out the CanAm Defender?

Clutch update solves problem.

Ive owned alot of polaris atvs. They were always very quiet and crisp when brand new, but 6 months down the road it felt 3 yrs old. Polaris is built to sell and are impressive on the showroom floor.

Disclaimer: different people have different stories. This is mine.

Had a bunch of ATVs of all different brands, owned one Polaris ATV that I spent more time fixing than riding, pushed me back to Hondas for a while.

Honda ATV was stolen moved to motorcycles for a while, I tried different motorcycle brands, ended up with Honda.

Moved to SxS ....decided they were to expensive and if history held true I’d spend a lot of money to end up with a Honda anyway.

Get what ever you want because you will it's your money. But I have over 2500 miles on my pioneer 1000-5 with almost no problems.

For what it's worth we have 6800 miles on our 1000. We have had 0 issues with it it's a 2016, 5 EPS the very first one my dealer got in. I plow snow, trail ride, use it for most of our running around, tow stuff with it. Pretty much use it like I would use a small pickup.

I have a 1000 with about 1200 miles. No real issues except heat.....in summer... But in the winter it's great I just change direction of the bilge fan.

As previously stated a perfect machine does not exist. They all have sacrifices in one area or another. Some have more plastic vs steel, some better shocks, better seats, and on and on.....Pick where you want that to be.....i chose an engine that will last forever and a transmission with no belt. My Honda isn't perfect but it does everything I need and does it well.
I like the new Polaris ranger but I have to say in 20 years of riding, Polaris seems to be getting fixed the most.

Huh? Defender has been out for a few years now.

Am I missing something, do you owe on your 700? If not I think $14k is a little high with that much trade In. The 1000-3 with EPS retails for $15,700, add another $1000 for taxes (in KY) then about $200 for doc fees and your at $17000. If their giving $7k on trade in that's not owed on then that's a little high. Even with a top and windshield.

He should be tax exempt.. I walked out the door at the same dealership this time last year with a 2016 deluxe PK5 for 15,600 with a roof. And I’ll give them credit.. they were good to me on my trade “back” and didn’t gouge on the 1000 price. I think the 7&7 sounds pretty fair.

I took it as 7k trade difference.
Correct, and I am Tax exempt and will get 20% off for accessories such as roof and windshield.

Will be looking at the Ranger soon and make my decision. Polaris really stepped up the game with the new Ranger making the decision more difficult, otherwise, I am Honda all the way.
