Check valve on top of the head.
But I don't see any procedure for checking its operations in the service manual.

There's a crankcase breather hose (#6) venting into the airbox, shown in the service manual Page 7-16. It's hidden from sight, above the throttle bodies and it looks like the airbox has to be loose before you can get to it..

The filter element itself or the composite around it? Not sure if you've seen it, there have been some R2C failures but it's the composite, not the element itself. Highpocket has a thread going on it.

Oh _rap! Guessing lots of abrasive taking out the rings, pressurizing crankcase and blowing oil out the breather hose??

Bad news! Sorry.

And I'd been thinking about getting an R2C after reviewing specs. Glad I waited.

Yep that’s my assumption.

The amount of force (suction) to tear and pull in the membrane must have been considerable. I'm wondering if filter membrane blockage increased to the point that overcame the strength of the membrane. What does the other side of the filter look like? How many miles on the filter?

That's not many. Certainly not enough to block the membrane. I just installed V2 of the R2C filter and will check routinely plus I will be installing a prefilter. It sounds like you had no indicators before it went catastrophic. I hope this turns out the least amount of painful for you.

We are talking about the new R2C filter that has failed early on after initial distribution, right? The cause of those failures being due to the potting, or sealant material that bonds the filter media edges to the frame breaking down or coming loose.

Oops, sorry. I was thinking you were dealing with the new R2C for the Pioneer, and you are dealing with the Talon version. Disregard my post.

Yes, I'm calling them V1 or built before 8/11/2021. V2 built after that date. The only way to tell is if you receive a new gasket and the shipping date on the invoice since there is no stamp on the V2 filter.
