I came across this video from a guy in Tucson. Around 20 seconds in...

I had been in this area before but thought this was an active residence. This inspired me to check it out again...

It appears to be a 74 Datsun 620 truck...

20250118 132911

I only know because of the VIN tag, which almost looks tampered with...

20250118 133007

I honestly thought it was a LUV, which would have been even cooler.

20250118 132941

20250118 133557

Junk all around...a Giant of some sort. The fork says 80mm of travel. For reference, my new YT has 150mm of fork travel, which considered the upper limit for a "trail" bike.

20250118 132858

Two more structures nearby, but I only took a pic of one...

20250118 140203

I've really only been in this immediate area once. I thought it was private property, but it's clearly abandoned. Looking at historical Google earth images, it seems it's likely been so for at least 10 years. Mineral mountain mine is just across the ridge. There are TONS of shafts in the hills around, so I'll be coming back in the future.

I'll have my own video when I get around to it, but in the meantime, the one I linked shows the inside.

I have no idea why this pic showed up twice, but once this happens, it's always been ALMOST impossible to correct it on here so I'll let it ride...

My lone shot from the trail today...

20250208 155109

Just sitting chilling a few miles from the truck.

Haven't been out in a few weeks. As I posted in the mountain bike thread, I went out on it Christmas day and had a crash. X ray and an MRI later it was determined that I have a "massive" rotator cuff tear. Basically living with 1.25 arms, so even with the EPS, it tends to be a lot of effort to go on a ride.
Add to that the notion that if something went sideways and I had to try and rock the machine or crawl out of it, I'd be in trouble...and I've been keeping It to very easy trails.

I confess the physical pain is one thing (which really hasn't been that bad), but the psychological effect of this has been surprising to me. I'm used to being the one that helps, not the one that needs help. I'm also not used to looking at the world and everything I do with an eye on being super safe and not hurting myself. It's a strange thing I'm not used to.

My employer is very generous in that he's going to let me do a desk job, otherwise it might be literally a month or two before I can actually spin wrenches again, if that. Where I in a position where I simply couldn't work for that reason, I would probably lose everything. Nice living paycheck to paycheck with nothing to fall back on.

Anyways...Surgery's next Friday, and the first 6 weeks will be with an arm in a sling, and a full 6 months for "full recovery". Figure it'll probably be at least a few months before I can go out in the sxs again, if that, and then we're in the middle of an Arizona summer, so it could well be that it could be this fall before I'm able to do this again. And for that reason I just had to get out today...

Now that I'm in my late 70's, I'm in the same place. I can't use the - 'worse case, I'll just walk out'. Not likely at the distances I get away from camp. It plays on me more, every ride. :-|

I worked for a big company, when I broke my leg, they just moved me to a desk job. It didn't hurt that it was a union shop having my back.

Sorry...didn't mean to depress everyone...LOL.

It could have been worse. A lot worse. As it is, I'll live to fight again. And it was a beautiful day...
If ya can’t share the unfortunate parts of life with peeps they don’t deserve to hear about the best parts. I’m glad you got out while you can. Keep your chin up and take care of yourself. I’ll be rooting for you from afar!

I'm saddened to read of your injury. I can relate to your situation - not because of an injury but due to age. We have to adjust and keep on living.

I hope your surgery is successful and you reach full recovery. Follow your doctor's and therapist's instructions. Do the PT as required.

As a mechanic you're probably in good physical condition so you should have a good outcome and be back cruising the desert and posting photos before long.

Good luck.

I went thru the rotator cuff surgery several years back.. The worst part was the first four weeks after surgery, wearing the sling and the damn arm pillow, and sleeping in a recliner. After you make it past that, it gets better each week. Hang in there

Made a trip down to 1.5 million acre Mark Twain National Forest in central Missouri. Was fortunate to have several locals as guides. We ran into more icy conditions than normal as weather and winter conditions were much worse than average this January. Still much better than back home in Wisconsin. As always I was in the minority on the Talon with a bunch of Polaris drivers. Great trip, already planning to return

@DG Rider Very true it does get better with time. I had it done and ended up with an additional anchor put in. I can't emphasize enough to follow the Dr. and physics therapists directions to the letter. I've seen so many get to feeling good and do something that causes a set back. Good luck, the trails will be waiting for you.
