Got in a few rides last week before the gun deer hunting season opened in Wisconsin. Temps were in the mid to upper thirties.

Well...4 day weekend has been spent being sick. Both the wife and I. Didn't even feel like making Thanksgiving dinner. I was feeling better yesterday and snuck out to box canyon Florence for a ride. Today, I feel worse for some reason. Was going to try and take the MTB out tomorrow, but don't think it's going to happen...

Anyway...box canyon. The closest "hot spot" to me...but also to the eastern half of the 5th largest city in the USA , so I often avoid it due to the sheer number of people that go there. Literally, 5-10-15 machine caravans on a SLOW day, usually with mariachi or country rap blasting at high volumes. Blown out trails with pure moon dust. Also very rocky...which kinda brings out the worst in the 700. But...a cool place with lots of stuff.

First time I'd been through box canyon in probably 3 years. First time up AJax mine road since @WillyBill and I rode there, which I think was 2 years ago.

I took some video which will come later, but only 2 pics...

Old corral down Canyon from Orphan boy mine. I think the last time I was here was in the 500...

A somewhat hidden shaft off of Ajax mine road with and unfortunate victim who fell in and couldn't get out...

In the meantime... @lee spoke of low production videos on YouTube in the overlanding thread. Here is a terrible example from yours truly about the Romero burn scar...

This guy had a really bad day, it's 15 miles back to pavement. He was several hundred feet from the water. The lesson to be learned - when the waterline is receding, be careful, the soil is wetter, softer and muddier than you think.

At least he didn't have an issue with dust in the cab or heat coming from his seatbelt :)

All the way down the turquoise track, a barely used trail, which wasn't marked on the topo, I was hoping that it would connect to the orange trail (red circle). The black waypoint is gated, motorcycles only.

but this pretty much convinced me that there's no way I'm getting across that canyon - 😢 I had to backtrack and go west to the green trail and then across to the orange one (also unmarked for a bit). When you see a fork heading your direction, you take it, it might go where you want. :) But I'll never take off cross country, that's a no-no out here, obvious trails only.

I've ridden that road, but not that day. It dead ends below the edge I'm on.

Look close, there's a road, just above dead center ... that I didn't see when I was there ... I found it on GAIA and returned -

Shots from the campsite (and probably before Honda introduced the Talon). I had stopped at a random POI on the side of the road in Death Valley. That POI explained alluvial fans to me ... and I've been dumbfounded with them ever since ... there are hundreds of them, if not thousands, in Death Valley. Just think how long it took for all those rocks to wash out of the canyons above to make each one, in an environment where it rains 'once in a while'.

An alluvial fan from Panamint Springs looking back toward Towne Pass (a nightmare descent in an RV with a trailer ). ps: not my RV

Dudes ... if this photo wasn't looking almost straight north, the trailer would be two times zones away; it's just short of that distant mountain range -

Not the prettiest scenery I see but one of my favorite rides - 1. Because of the desolation. 2. A lot of the trail is across this white rock, there are no tracks to follow, I'm GAIA dependent out there -
