Oil cap left off for MONTHS!! Dodge Ram.

So. Fixing to go to the beach. Havent really checked my motor for several months. Had a full inspection, tire rotation, and oil change back in late March and havent touched it since.

Today. Checking all fluids I found the oil cap off and just sitting in a random hole.

Do I need to go have a oil change?
How much dust to you think entered?
Lots of dust around the rim but no oil splatter.
Stuck finger down inside. No oil residue.

It does not seem to be spitting or sucking.

Thoughts?

2017 dodge ram 1500, 5.7 V8, HEMI baby.

I did that on my wife’s old Corolla and it blew oil all over under the hood

Oil change and filter right away.

Thats all you really can do. It is bad but to late to cry over spilled milk.

If you were running synthetic oil in it then you’d be better off had it run so low. Could flush it but definitely change the oil and filter.

Definitely change the oil and filter. The PCV system is designed to pull a minimal amount of vacuum on the crankcase so as to minimize oil leaks and reburn crankcase fumes through the engine. With the oil cap removed it is possible for it to suck contaminants in through the valve cover.
