Wouldnt it be a novel idea if they were going to have accesories from factory they would have the sxs ready to just bolt on with brackets and what not already there. If you have to drill holes and stuff prob be better waiting for someone else because chances are they will improve on whats available.

For $150, I am willing to do some fabrication to make it fit. For $599, those doors better fit like my favorite shoes! For those of you that are defending the fact that the doors need fabrication, how would you feel if you spent $599 on a new window for your daily driver that required some fabrication? Better yet, on your wife or girlfriends vehicle? I know i am even more picky about her vehicle than mine.

$500 LOL, what about $2700 for the hard doors they should have a built in Starbuck dispenser. I was all about those hard doors but looks like they may not be what I am really wanting anyway.

I was going to leave the hard doors alone because I havent seen any in person. I have seen the soft doors in person though. I was being generous at $150. I figured there was $50 in materials and allowing twice that for labor is how I got the $150. I am thinking I need to get one sooner rather than later and see what can be fabricated in the way of doors. I have some talented friends that like to "dabble" in side projects.

The problem is not cost its the difference between real cost for most goods and what the average American earns. Cost has increased while the average American makes the same (with inflation) as they did 10 years ago. It costs money to provide a good or service, just happens to cost a lot more for a quality good and service than most people can reasonably afford.

A plain taco from TacoBell is $2, It was .39cents in the 90's, that was my goto as a LOWER middle class highschooler that had to work for everything. I remember thinking $0.87 gas was too expensive, gas is $2gallon (for now) but its been almost $5. Both a 500% increase, I know some people who only wish they were making 5 times what they were earning in 1995.

Capitalism is good but the economy we have in America now is more socialist than capitalist, socialists want goods to be good, fast, and cheap.
Capitalists understand you can only have two of the three.

As I work 40-60hrs a week, I didn't have time to build all the pieces for Red Mountain myself, I had to farm it out, which is the way MOST companies operate these days. Strange but true very few companies make 100% of their products. Automakers get a large percentage of their parts and pieces from all over the map then assemble it in their factory. LOW BID at that. There is an automotive interiors factory locally that makes seats for a Dodge Dart right next to the ones for a BMW 7 Series. MOST automotive batteries sold, regardless of the sticker on the case, in the US are made in the same two factories both owned by the same major corporation.

My points are:

Stuff is far more expensive to make and when you make it you want to make as much money from it as the market can bear. If people are willing to pay a certain price for a product in high enough numbers the price will stay elevated. If enough people are NOT willing to pay then it will drop. Basic capitalistic supply and demand, good for the market in general not so good for those who don't want to pay what the market will bear, (especially for cheapskates like me who want a quality product without a second mortgage)

Sometimes its hard to get your suppliers to meet your requirements, the last batch they made was perfect, the next batch is so FUBAR its only worth scrap prices.

Is that why you stopped making the parts that you were making and stopped your business?

Working 40-60 I didn't have time with the fam and didn't need the money, it originally started as a way to get good parts to fellow rider for a decent price, a stress reliever and it became a source of additional stress.

I have the soft doors & back on my 1k3. I have only driven it in our
neighborhood 3 or 4 times, but we can feel the engine heat coming
up around the seat. With the installation description listed above,
along with it's cost, I think I will pass on the heater kit. I intend
to add a plow for snow removal, so I may look at diverting more
of that warm air into the cabin.

Johnny_C, or anyone else who has already has them please give my your opinions of the soft doors and back panel? I was about to order until I read this thread...after reading, no way would I buy them. I figured I would just wait and see what kind of after market product would pop up over the next few months. My type of riding involves opening and closing the door frequently if that has much bearing on it.

Ned,
I don't think they are that bad. They have cloth hems that protrude
past the door structure members and provide contact around the
door openings. I have had to tweak those a little & I did have to
aggressively flex/bend the drivers door out about 2" at the top to
get a better seal there, but they are about what I expected. I didn't
think they would be perfect, but enough to retain some heat in the
winter, and good enough to keep a lot of dust out in the summer, if
needed.

I really wanted the rear for dust reduction, so the soft doors went
hand in hand with that. I'm just not interested in the hard doors
for a recreational/utility vehicle.

Let me know if you have more questions & I can post photo's of
whatever you want see.

Thanks for the response and after going through the thread again I also see a good bit of information from Pioneer1K that has removed many of my worries. I may now just sit on the decision until I get all of my first bit of electrical installs done. I also have some MudBuster mudflaps to receive and install. It really bothers me that mud gets slung up under the rear doors and all over the back. I can't wait to get those on. After I get all that accomplished, I will continue to review what you and others say while I try to put away a little change for the continuing outbound flood of all my hard earned money on accessories and other goodies.

I wish the clear part of the front and rear doors zipped all the way out. It would prevent most of the silly scratches they get from being rolled up and scratching on itself. I'm curious if anyone has ever taken anything like this to an upholstery shop and having them switch it to a full zip out style window.

I am thinking we will just let the windows
fall inside without rolling the up. That's
what we have been doing while riding
around the neighborhood during the
day. It's chilly here at night, so they
get zipped shut after dark.

Works well that way , keep them partially zipped and they stay out of the way too.

Should have them within the next few days and I will put them on immediately. I have had my property timbered last summer/fall and I heat primarily with wood. I have lots of down tops and beautifully wide trails but lots of KY mud (seems like it never is ever clean completely again). I know I'm a wuss but I can bring myself to sling all that mud all over my new Honda. I find myself waiting until the driest days to haul and still washing my pioneer often. I have to do something, so mudflaps/flares it is. Will definitely write my thoughts.

I am using sender flares on my pioneer 700. I'll plan to add some to the pioneer 1000 when I get one. That's the reason I'm looking forward to seeing your review and photos.
