But most likely just with the SXS and a tent and air mattress pack, as opposed to towing the little trailer, both to increase speed, and because the Lolo portion of the trail is much tougher than most of the MC. You could do this one right from your house lol...It could also be shortened by connecting from Grangeville to Kooskia, which is what most people doing it in UTV’s do.

I believe that I saw that number somewhere at 75 miles from actual start to finish, but 151 from Lolo to Kooskia.

Not trying to hijack thread but I am getting ready to try do the Magruder Corridor and then back on the Lolo trail this month. I won't be taking my pioneer this time but will take my 2001 Cherokee that I have been building the last 3 years. The Rock Donkey (jeep) should do well on this type of trail. Montecresto inspired me to do this. It is just about the same width as the pioneer.

Yea, you won’t have any issues on the Magruder. I can’t speak for the Lolo trail, cause I’ve not been on it, but it is one I’ve wanted to do for years.

Since my planned ride along the French Creek Switchbacks down to the Salmon River is still on fire, I think I’m gonna hit the Magruder Corridor the day after tomorrow. Maybe go as far as the Burnt Knob Fire Lookout then turn around and camp somewhere near Orogrande or Red River Hot Springs...

I went to Darby last Sunday and it rained the whole day. I drove the Jeep through Magruder on Monday with clear skies, no dust and no fires. Perfect timing. I went 140 miles from Darby to Elk CIty in 11 hours of driving with a few side excursions. Planned on doing the Lolo trail on Tuesday but wife and myself were a bit tuckered out but plan to hit it in September. Made it up to Burnt Knob. Great trip.

Gotta admit though that @graybear did a little better job on position for a picture...your guys adventures looked cool.

I have some information on the Burnt Knob Lookout.

“A guy posted that his grandfather helped build the road to the lookout and back towards Buffalo Hump in the 1930s. His was the first dozer to the lookout at Burnt Knob. They were running Cletrac dozers a little smaller than a D2. A T2 helicopter to sling the steel com box and repeater there.”

“Someone went up to see it while it was being maned and when he got there the fellow on the lookout was a talker. He told him that one day before he had been dangling his legs over the edge admiring the lakes before him when he heard a noise behind him. He turned and startled a mountain goat right behind him. It took a long few minutes for the billy to decide to not butt him off the edge and trot away!”

I wouldn’t have gone up there with a D12.

The first helicopter that I’m aware of was late 1939, can’t imagine what a T2 is.....🤔

I bunched them together, a repeater would have been years later.
