@CumminsPusher are you thinking north like Sandpoint Priest River areas or St Maries? I see there often is land is more affordable in St Maries but it's a poorer economy and Much of Benewah county in on the reservation and subject to the Indian's governing practices which almost never really favors the white guy. Go Figure... Anyway there's always Hound dog's place but that much more remote and a far drive from employment. Plus I don't like the tiny lots and none on moving water and especially the woman that Steve butts heads with.. Which brings me to further north in Bonner and Boundary counties there seems to be more water in general but St. Maries is drier unless you're right on the river. I do like the road going towards the Big Eddy and Avery better though. Personally I'd prefer something off the main highways. Even something a little deeper into the woods. Wish I owned Horse Haven.

Choice would be Marie’s obviously but probably somewhere between Athol-CDA-Kellog for job security. If I could somehow land the body shop in Marie’s, I’m sure Ang can grab spot at the hospital there.
Still a little bit off I don’t like getting to excited on things till it’s time to pull the trigger. Might even be a little more time and I’m open but that’s the timeframe our house will be paid off so things will become very easy. Money isn’t as important as happiness to me.
But we can bulls*** later about this. Still time and it’s not part of this thread but you know where my heart lies.

7 acres for a 1/4 million????!!!! I just bought 140 acres bounded by the National Forest on two sides for less than that. Go out the back gate and ride on 1.5 million acres of the Santa Fe National Forest. Property is at 8,000’ covered with ponderosa pine, blue and white spruce, Douglas fir, aspen and a bit of oak.

Have you ever been to elk city? No economy very poor community. More so than st Maries. Also 45 minutes east of Grangeville and yearly the only road in or out, gets washed out by landslides. Great though if you're independently wealthy and or a total bug out location. otherwise everyone there is on some kind of gov support. Also it's not a city in the usual sense. more like a hamlet. only jobs are working for the national forest service.

Oh ok, I completely misunderstood your intentions and purpose of “weathering the coming storm”. A rural and isolated location is what I thought you were seeking.

My ranch in the rural mountains of eastern Oklahoma is beyond all modern infrastructure and in a very depressed job market, a perfect place to weather a storm. I built my own home which is solar powered, with 50” of rain a year, I have 6,000 gallon holding cisterns, heat and cook with wood and am generally self sustaining. Seems in some fashion, the property I posted above could work similarly.

Not yet, but come late July I hope to be able to answer that in the affirmative, and now that I’ve had a peek at rural land for sale around there, I may walk some of it. I don’t do the stock market but enjoy investing in property! I own 6 pieces in three states. May as well be seven in four.
