***For Official Frequencies***

The list @Hondasxs provided is really the best way to go. It allows everyone to talk (HAM or not) and works with pretty much all over the counter/ sporting good walkies.

Those of us w 8 watts radios can still easily tune to those frequencies. (Disclaimer- you are responsible for staying below 3 watts)

But for this event, the goal is to allow the leader to communicate with the tail so the group stays together. Nearly any handheld will do that.

So to reiterate

FRS = Family Radio Service
Common Channel,
Frequency (MHz)Notes
1, 462.5625 Shared with GMRS
2, 462.5875 Shared with GMRS
3, 462.6125 Shared with GMRS
4, 462.6375 Shared with GMRS
5, 462.6625 Shared with GMRS
6, 462.6875 Shared with GMRS
7, 462.7125 Shared with GMRS
8, 467.5625 FRS use only
9, 467.5875 FRS use only
10, 467.6125 FRS use only
11, 467.6375 FRS use only
12, 467.6625 FRS use only
13, 467.6875 FRS use only
14, 467.7125 FRS use only

We all stay legal like.
Changing from these frequencies isn't going to provide any additional range, anyways.

Don't forget that any one can use these frequencies so there is a chance that other riding up there might also be using them

I would plan on selecting maybe 2 or 3 channels (frequencies) that would be used for the main group and then when you break up for rides have another 2 (primary and secondary) that your group picks to stay in touch on the trail. If one is busy with others out side the group talking simply ask if you can broadcast for your group to go to the secondary channel.

Then say at the top and bottom of each hour have someone designated in the riding groups to check the main 2 or 3 bigger group frequencies for traffic or if a Honda has 2 radios they can keep one tuned to the big group frequency.

Wish I could be there.

Didn't realize you was from Raleigh. I spent some time in Durham at buddy's house on weekends when I was in the Corps. Lived in Wilmington for couple years.

Somebody appoint themselves chief radio executive and decide on a couple frequencies for everyone to use the week leading up to takeover. For general takeover information.

OK. How about this.
Let's choose FRS channel 4.

For standard walkie talkie you will set it to channel 4 with privacy code set to off or (0).

To do this on most walkie talkies. You can set the channel by hitting menu. Waiting for channel to flash. Update to 4 hit menu again and set second small number to off or 0.

For "special radios". It will be 462.6375.

On our "special radios" we can do 2 channels at same time. So we can monitor this channel and another together.

Why 4. Because this is the 4th Honda SxS group ride.

That'll work! And remember everyone (JTW,myself and a couple others) there are families that will be listening in. Probably save shenanigans for the "other" channel

On Saturday maybe each group should use a different channel so we don't hear each other all the time?

I manually programmed about five channels on mine. Two is really all you need and a couple channels takes about 20 seconds manually

When I tried.. they didn't take. I got pissed and ordered the cable. After the CHIRP program and offerings.. I've got mine all but filled. I've got maybe 12 open channels. Lol
