Picking up a P1000-3 next week and need to add a winch. Leaning towards a 4500# with synthetic unless I am talked out of it. What brand are people using? I have always had Warn winches and have never had any problems, but they seem to be highest in price. My local Honda dealer pushes the KFI winches.

Ohanacreek put a KFI 45 stealth on back in ‘13 and I’m interested in knowing how it’s held up.

I have the superwinch Terra 4500s with the kfi mount and am happy. I have the 3500 models on my Ranchers and have had no problems with those either. I do replace the rope with a short piece of webbing in the winter on my Rancher for plowing snow though. The price is right.
I did buy the warn plow though. Big difference over the cheaper plows imo.

The guy who bought my 700 said it’s still going strong. Whole rig has only needed regular maintenance. Kinda proud about that.

I have two Viper Midnights on my 1000 use them a good bit around the homestead and have used the front to winch up a steep nasty hill at takeover. Other than draining the battery down quick they have worked really well.

I am swapping the KFI mount for the EMP winch mount.

I prefer Warn but over priced so I went the 4500 Superwinch w/ synthetic rope very happy so far.

I've always used Warn and they have never let me down. I think you definitely pay a bit for the name. A family member has been using Viper winches for a few years now since they are cheaper and has had good luck with them. If I remember right they have a pretty good warranty as well. I've also heard good things about KFI winches, but no experience with them.

I'll tell you I will not EVER own another winch with a steel cable. The synthetic is so much better! After having one with steel that kinks and frays and tears stuff up I'll never have another. Every winch i've owned since if it didn't come with synthetic I put it on before I ever used the winch.

I've also never paid full price for a winch. I troll the Cabelas bargain cave and once in a great while you see a winch get returned. They're usually about 40% off so i buy it weather I need it or not. I think im on the 4th one of those :)

Good advice. I have seen some cheap one go through the bargain cave. My last one was synthetic and I plan to stick with it.

I'd buy another Viper - mine's been reliable.
I had a self-inflicted problem while installing mine and they sent a replacement part - no questions asked.

Another Viper owner. Viper Max 4500 with synthetic cable. Use it quite a bit around the property. No issues and the price is very reasonable.
