P1000 Honda Pioneer 1000 Tire Pressure?

I was wondering what tire pressure people are running on their 1000-5 deluxe? I'm not rock climbing or anything like that - mostly dirt roads and some trails.

@TimL Welcome to the club! Given that the P1000-5 is 1700 lbs. without riders I would say at least 8-10 PSI min would be a safe bet, I would not want to risk rolling a tire off the bead from hitting a rut just wrong. I typically run 9-10 PSI in all my SXS even in the heavily rocky trails. Had to loan out my air compressor more than once for the fellas that though they needed 4-6 psi to get up the trails and a sharp rock pushed the tire off the bead.

Now that I have had seat time on the Pioneer 1000 I can say the OEM pressure of 12 front 13 rear is spot on and would not go lower. When installing skids had it tipped on two tires noticed considerable sidewall flex thought it was waaay to low. Got done checked the pressure it was spot on at 12 /13 and that is sitting still in a driveway. I can only imagine how much they flex under power in off camber ruts.

Personally I am definitely going with a tougher 8 ply radial like the Roctane XD I am accustomed to.

Hi Jackal,
Will you install the Rocktane XD on the stock deluxe wheels with the same size all around or swap wheels out to match?
I will be going with (5) STI HD3 Machined & Black 14" wheels that have a 6"+1" offset mounting 28 x 10 x 14 Roctane XD tires. This will give me a matching spare to mount and can be run on any corner. I will keep the OEM tires and Wheels for backup.

This should get my width down to 61" so I can fit through 60" gates out West, those buying the 4+3 offset wheels are 66" wide in the front.

Sure do, The 32 supplied self tapping bolts that came with the Trail Armor skid plate have a 7/16" head and the bolt itself is a 1/4" x 14 tpi. self tapping which are total 1.25" long. The Honda OEM bolts which you re-use have a 10mm head and are 6mm x26mm long (1 inch). There was ONE bolt that is 2" long with a spacer that cuts into OEM bolt hole dead center of the main section it too is 1/4 x 14 self tapping but did not have a drilling tip like the others.

How do you like the skid plate? Did you go with the a-arm guards as well?
I like them very much fabricated with great attention to detail. Not one of the 32 additional holes was off center of the frame and none were at a welded joint. Yes I got the full set of Arm guards. E73e65a8026d364657d8d64a11a4721f939f9419b5055e347d102fe51f36844f

8ply radial makes a huge difference on sidewall flex...HUGE...you can end up running almost no air in them if you're not careful.
With aluminum rims you really need to check your pressures occasionally, they can have small imperfections and you end up with a leak.

Sorry for the noob question, but is the recommended tire pressure just for the factory tires or all in general? I just put 28" Blackwater Evos 10" front and 11" rear. The tire place filled them to 32 psi. Im 95% using it for utility work around our property on mostly gravel roads and some pavement. Do you guys set the psi different for plowing snow? That is the most important thing we need it for. Our driveway is over 800' and half is 20% slope.

Also....those Evos at full pressure tear up the driveway pretty good.

That evo is an 8 ply and would think hard as a stone at that psi. I would feel fine at 10 but would at least try 15 for awhile

For my utility purposes I would use EVOs at 10 psi. Even 15 will be harsh and make the tire wear in the middle.

To prevent the tires from tires from tearing up grass or the driveway, make sure you keep it in turf mode.

By the way, that's a sweet looking rig. I love the color and those tires and wheels make it look really good!

I have the Trial Armor system also, complete and they really do a great job of protecting the under carriage. took me 2 1/2 hours to install. You do need C clamps for the front and rear of the skid plates. I have lot of marks on mine.

I run 13-14 psi with the terribites as per Honda . at this PSI they will tear up lawn, spin on steep gravel roads, pretty much can spin tires on command on most surfaces except pavement. I keep them aired up though, cuz I like to take this thing on the road for short trips. I'm to lazy to change air PSI .
Now if I really wanted to climb the steep A$$ hill behind my house, I would air down. In reality though probably not. When in doubt wind it out. I like it when all 4's are spinning, and the RPM's are banging at the 8k mark. :)>09151710121
