I run my 520 down a main road often. I flat foot it and run it about 37-39 MPH or at least just under the rev Limiter. Will I throw a rod doing this, or can she take the abuse?

In my foreman experience you'll cook the rings out before it throws the rod.

Have had the 500 screaming all day on several rides. Sucks fuel like crazy but I never worry about burning it up. Take care of it right and it'll take care of you.

No worries m8 . Balls to the walls all day long unless you run out of gas , then you have to leave it because you can't afford to fill it up .

Keep the air and the oil clean and it will run wide open for a very, very long time. Mine started consuming a little bit of oil around 3000 miles or so. So I would always check it before longer rides. No big deal.

I would think that's why they put a rev limiter on it. To keep from having a Chernobyl event.

My one time issue running like that was overheating from a mud clogged radiator on a long ride. Check/clean it periodically for WOT running and should be good. I now keep a water jug and 12v sprayer in the trash can mod under the drivers seat. (thanks @trigger).

This, the old air cooled atvs would melt the piston into the cylinder due to heat and lack of lubrication.

Im sure the liquid cooled units are better at coping, but still not great.

Make sure keep to the regularly scheduled valve adjustments.
