Both Germany and Japan towards the end of the war and as resources became short, as with most of the weapons that were manufactured were lacking in various parts and or quality controls. Many of these possibly non safe guns are now collectors items. Always look for guns made prior to the wars and at the very end. Many didn't have safety's or made with crude or below grade metallurgy. It may not be safe to shoot but it may be worth more money!

I went to look at another Mosin Nagant today and ended up scoring 7 more spam cans for a phenomenal deal! I also got to play with a real Non-Transferable Russian belt fed RPD full auto light machine gun. Didn't get to shoot it but boy was it cool!
The VKT Hex receiver is a 76.2 x 54r Finnish made Valmet M1891 or M91 for short. Even though it's the longest barrel design they made during that time period. Later, the variant M91/30 was used predominantly by the Russians during WW2. There's a lot of interesting history attached to all the various types. They're still affordable enough to collect and only seem to increase in value. About 5 years ago they were selling for around $70 and now can reach up into the $7-900 range like the 1915 New England Westinghouse I found recently. My favorites are the older ones with the Hex receivers. Another cool thing about the VKT one is that it's mostly all matching numbers and a low serial number from their first year of production. Got Mosins?

I just don't want to open the spam cans. Worth more intact and store better. I was hoping the Cyrillic marks would tell but apparently not. From what I've read is that they're predominantly 147 or 148 grain. Light Ball and or AP.

The cans with the 10 stamped inside of 2 circles is non corrosive Bulgarian. The other is most likely corrosive from Russia.

Something else; With the escalation of troubles between Russia and the Ukraine, it seems very unlikely that any more of this surplus ammo will be imported here any time in the near future, which sadly enough will continue to drive up the price of these cans. Bad for them but good for me...

I will post up a recent pic tonight. I recently addes the CK Arms E2 stainless Steel grip. I did all the machine work on the slide and even made the optics mount from aluminum bar stock.

With the big stick in, it holds 29 rds of 9 Major. So much fun it should be illegal...
