Honda car 4cyl with the transaxle. Mount the assembly sideways and use the trans outputs to run driveshafts to the diffs F&R.

DED did an episode like this where they took a Toyota Rav4, mounted the engine and transaxle sideways and did a 4wd conversion. It sort of worked but lacked a low gear for crawling.
This might work for some backyard homebrewed hillbilly stuff with the engine and trans mounted in the back seat of an X4, but im not convinced it would work in a production level vehicle.

I watched that DED episode. Low gear isn't necessary if you have torque. VTEC engines make good torque when installed in a light SxS.
