TYT 8600 mobile and Baofeng BF-F8HP here. No amp needed. Did get power supply to also run mobile in house as got the ham tech lic., ($15 for test) for a hobby as internet connected repeaters allow contacts around world. Was some interesting stuff to listen to during Hurricane Florence. Lots of good info on this linked tread also.

In Utah I was at around 10,000 ft elevation and was able to talk to another SXS rally group across the valley about 40 miles away according to the location they gave. I typically get through 15 miles of trees here in TN to other mobile units .

Have the same radio don’t know what it transmits at but it’s deffinately a good radio

Size difference between UV-25x2 and 50x2(I kept saying 25x4 previously)



UV-50x2 draws some amps at full power.

Got the Tyt 8600 since advertised as water proof. No worries when washing down sxs after rides. Amazing how small these radios are now, and low price.

How much programming do you need to do to use that? I know little about these and want to get a few beofang/Galwad/uniden/arschell style handhelds so I can hand a few to the guys that never seem to have anything, but also one of these to keep in my own P5. If I pick up some different brands of radio used (FB marketplace is full of them cheap) can they communicate together?

Finally got a new SWR meter, @60 watts at 140.0000 with a 1.4SWR and about 38watts at 462.000 with a 1.2SWR

Without being able to tune the antenna because it’s too short that’s the best I can do and it’s under the 1.5 max the UV-50x2 allows.
