A old barn cat that doesn't get fed, best mouse deterrent I've found.
My wife is allergic to cats! But normally the local rat snake keeps my shop rat free. Only draw back is it scares the $#i+ out of me sometimes when I'm not expecting it.

So my cousin had mice in his attic. He said when he called the exterminator out, the guy wasn’t going in the attic. He asked him why not? The guy said he use to spend his time setting traps inside and just kept inviting them to come inside! A complete waist of time. So he just put a large bait station outside under a deck so the mice that want to come in, won’t make it. They eat the bait outside and die outside. He said after catching the only mice he then had in the attic, he’s never had them again. Seen tons of them dead in the yard from the bait station. So we put one out at the cabin last week.
