After seeing @JTW new toy and reading the “Bears Tinkering thread”, thinking a generic tread for DIY Workshop and Woodworking stuff in this Off-Topics section would be an interesting catch all spot. There’s some really skilled members here and hoping to see projects like his.
My project today, a router table-table, to make use of some shrinking workshop floor space. Everything has to be on wheels for when the (475cc) SxS comes inside.

I wish I had more time to tinker, seems like I end up fixing broken chit in my free time.

Today's mission, diagnose which u joint on my truck went out. Found one on the double cardian out on front driveshaft so yanked it and soaking in PB blaster for tomorrow.

Next weekend is changing the oil pan, ran something good over and ripped a little weep hole in it.

Then its changing windows in house, replacing some lolly columns in basement, and when the weather clears up a bit start swapping frames on our old 12v plow truck. Maybe swap in the compound turbo setup I've been putting together.... Never bored!

Cabinet router bits arrived and first attempt for practice with scrap wood. 18 painted doors for office shelves are planned with hidden hinges so a hinge jig may be in my future. Wife doesn’t want raised panels so that makes it easier. Tips welcome.

Really like the safety of the Rockler coping jig with their fixed block for end cuts, so made an thick oak insert block as a outside edge hold down for wider stock. Keep those fingers safe.

A square tip. Found a use for those HF bar magnets with 2 metal framing squares. One one top of overlapping framing square sides. Those magnets are pretty strong like an extra pair of hands to prevent slipping during clamp set up. Red brackets confirmed angle.

My table saw fence is crap for holding still, so attached a old handle to a HF magnetic bar. Pretty strong. Don’t know what kind of metal the magnet is as it resist drilling in a drill press.

Making the last 4 of the 16 paneled doors for the library built-in shelves. Practicing Social Distancing by working in the garage. This week its wood and glue vs SxS bolts and grease.

I‘ve been painting with an air compressor for years and took a shot with the larger HF Avanti HVLP unit. 4 gallons thru it so far and pleased, gun parts disassemble easily for cleaning. Sprayed syrup thick Bonding/Primer without thinning it. Just finished 1st of 2 of Cabinet Paint top coat.

I picked one of those up a few weeks ago to use with my new compressor. I have a few projects I am going to try to spray all at the same time.

I'm jealous, looks good! Never been much of a finish carpenter/cabinet builder myself though I find it interesting.

Week one of staying home was productive for me. Cleaned garage enough to pull the old Dodge in and start disassembling, took 2 days just to clean and reorganize.

Saturday was a good day to tackle the main beam under our kitchen floor. Not exactly fun but could have been worse. House was built 1786, and the kitchen may have been shortly after. Still has hand hewn posts and main beam in crawl space in that section. Main beam needs replacing eventually but I was able to sister up the bad section with an 8x6 I had laying around. Welded up some support columns that will work for the new main beam when that time comes. Beats stacks of rocks I suppose.

Sunday and today I was able to start ripping the truck apart. Ultimately I have a roller with a bare shell of a cab, no wiring or dash etc I need to swap everything over to. Got most of the wiring harness disconnected out of engine bay, removed a/c lines, rad, intercooler, driveshafts, exhaust, crossmember. Tomorrow I will drop transmission, hopefully pull motor. I am a lot slower than I used to be.

Got the motor out and started stripping it down a little bit. The old cab mounts were shot so it made pulling the motor out interesting, could have used another inch of two of firewall clearance.

I didn't plan on pulling the head or anything, but it is a lot easier to do it now so might as well replace head gasket. Head studs, injectors, compound turbos are in the works as well.

This thing was rusty, had my doubts looking at the exhaust manifold bolts, but with some persuasion none of them broke, amazingly.

Next will be finish pulling injection pump, head, and clean up the block. 20+ years of work has left it nasty.

So now finishing up the duplicate shelving insert for the opposite left side of the room. Trying to decide to orient it mirrored or reversed. Any thoughts from the SxS Interior designers? Regardless, getting alot of practice for future shop cabinets.
