While working at Alcoa aluminums largest plant in the world (Bettendorf Iowa) I learned the best way to cut heavy gauge aluminum. Using a skil saw with a straight rake carbide blade and water as a coolant you can cut very nicely. They use a carbide blade 48" in diameter on a CNC type saw to cut aluminum s thick as 10". You could always have it sheared but fabbing at home makes the saw the way to go.
