Seems this did not work if you are set up to "watch replied to threads". It will just RE-Watch it.
The solution is to click the link twice.
The first time you are "UN-watching" it.
The second time you are "Watching" it but select "without receiving email notifications"

I need to build a post on notification control sometime I guess!
