Yes the back and the bottom removal really helped with stability. Of coarse that’s for our brand of car seat so your results may be different. Give it a shot and see what happens.

I ended up drilling the holes and that works great. Question - how does the seat back come off? The bottom pulls up easy but I can't see how the backs come off

Awesome, so you don't even use ratchet straps, just the standard car seat straps? I like that. 1/2 inch"?

Yep 1/2 inch drill bit. No ratchet straps. Only thing I would’ve done different is put the holes a little lower
